Military taking over does not mean martial law.
There had been civil martial law administrators in Pakistan's history.
Civilian rules have been more dictatorial as compare to military rules.
I remember from last perpetual civil rules of BB and Sharif that they replaced Cheif justices as they wished, they appointed army rules as suits them most and civil rights remained at lowest.
Here we must not confuse freedom with taking law into self hands.
People of Pakistan must understand that so called democracy of Pakistan never represent the majority. Elections in Pakistan are mostly engineered. |

Why blame madrassa? Has any agency built Primary, Nusery, or kinder Gartens, High Schools, or GCSE level or such fascilities where kids could start their schooling. None of us can answer these questions nor the establishment has done concrete work in this regard. Islamabad Zone II. Just buy somethign there and wait till 3-3 years. I had self experience in G-15. don't go for E-17 or B-17 it's far. F-15, G-16. F-17, G-17 as well G-15 still are the best places to invest. But, you have patience to wait for few years. I agree with Mrs. R.S. In many countries of the world open lands are almost free, provided by the state to the citizens for commercial or residential use. It's the cost of materials, labor etc that's the actual cost of the house. If you notice, labor and materials are many times cheaper in Pakistan yet house prices are more than most countries. It's because more than 60% of the cost is the price of the land! So what's wrong with this? Well, it shows that we can afford to pay millions for open lands (our country is 8lacs sq. kms. there's no shortage of open lands) but we cannot pay good salaries to labor or employees. We buy the best most expensive Burma Teak wood but haggle over petty sums with the carpenter.
In other countries where labor salaries are high, it contributes positively to the social and economic fabric of the country. People are more or less of equal standards, unlike Pakistan where salary difference in low and high skill jobs is several hundred times! This in turn promotes elitism and the love of elitism, the real disease we are inflicted with. |

The reason why the tradition of "investing" in open lands as if they are bonds is flourishing in our country is because it's the easiest quickest way to become rich for bureaucrats and politicians. That's why they deliberately create an artificial shortage and deliberately let the practice of false documents and frauds by patwaris continue. Thus, they make a few societies like DHA where documents cannot be faked which in turn forces people to be blackmailed into buy these properties, or paying Rs.5000 as processing fees for ballots, because they are deliberately left with no other option.
Many people have even regretted why they worked so hard all their lives and worked, set up factories, provided jobs, etc., when all they had to do was to buy some lands and go to sleep and would have been better off! |

Remittances rise by over 18% to $4.277 billion
KARACHI: Remittances sent home by overseas Pakistanis rose to $4.277 billion in the first seven months (July-January) of 2008-09, showing an increase of $653.91 million or 18.05 percent over the same period of the last fiscal year.
In January 2009, an amount of $637.30 million was sent home by overseas Pakistanis, up 14.40 percent or $80.23 million, when compared with $557.07 million received in the same month of last year.
The inflow of remittances in the July-January period of current fiscal year from USA, UAE, Saudi Arabia, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman), UK and EU countries amounted to $1.029 billion, $868.93 million, $838.66 million, $690.30 million, $289.96 million and $131.74 million, respectively, as compared with $1.025 billion, $593.57 million, $663.67 million, $539.88 million, $262.88 million and $103.18 million, respectively, in the July-January period of 2008. Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during the first seven months of the current fiscal year amounted to $428.30 million compared with $432.80 million in the same period last year. The monthly average remittances for the July-January period this year comes out to $611.04 million as compared with $517.63 million during the same period of last fiscal year. During January 2009 remittances from UAE, USA, Saudi Arabia, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman), UK and EU countries amounted to $169.50 million, $124.54 million, $123.76 million, $93.76 million, $50.14 million and $20.33 million, respectively, as compared with $93.24 million, $151.50 million, $100.61 million, $82.67 million, $35.65 million and $14.19 million in January 2008. Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during January 2009 amounted to $54.25 million. 1- Govt. put tight grip on HUNDI business, so most people have to send money through banks. Hundi people were not disclosing the right amount

Its not the duty of foreign nationals to invest in Pakistan, its our duty to make it good for the investment.
And these market conditons are good for buying low..
The only thing is we dont know that market has hit the bottom yet or not.
Look at the Stock exchanges all over the world. Prices are 50-80% low in just one year. And most of the people are investing becuase they belive buying low is the best way to make money.

I am an investor who has in millions all over the world.
Investor will invest money in a place where he thinks his money is safe and he will get good profit on his money. Do you think it applies for Pakistan?
See how zardari and company are running the country , slowly loosing country to Taliban. What positive economic steps have been taken by government to increase the chances of investors to come?
Secondly with the global turbulence in economy investors will keep their money in cash and in dollars, not in rupees.
FORGET ANY IMPROVEMENT or change for the next 4 years. After that we will see if anything happens.
Property dealers should think of starting some other business, they are in wrong business.
There has been slight increase in remittance because of high inflation in Pakistan, A thousand rupee does not buy you the same items anymore, you need 1500 instead and who will send that money overseas Pakistanis !! |

As long as the Taliban continues to take control of Pakistan inch by inch, marla by marla, day by day, the foreign investment will diminish dollar by dollar, rupee by rupee, day by day.
It is not possible to understand how the Taliban rule can be allowed to spread and grow. I have a friend living in Peshawar who is scared for his life and family. If a woman is seen riding in the front seat of the car, the Taliban stop the car and beat the driver. What kind of country is Pakistan becoming ??? Who would ever invest in Peshawar. And how much longer until this insanity reaches Punjab or Sindh?
If Pakistan cannot fight and defeat the Taliban, a war with India will be laughable and over in about 45 minutes. |

There strategy is to gather all the criminals(In pakistan, most every town has a place where people don't pass late night)& give them money weapons, and let them to implement (FAKE) Shariah. & many people who are dumb enough to follow what exactly islam is, fall for it. & accept it as real shariah. Start to do some work, rather than doing speculative work. Do any hard work, and Inshallah Allah (SWT) will bless you with wealth more than you had before. Even a rerhiwala earns around Rs.15000 a month. If you are doing a job, then you can keep money with the National Savings Behbood scheme, the pay 16.80% and profit is exempt from tax. Or you can find a partner who will work on your behalf. In this way, both will benefit. Think long term. |

well, I guess there are some things that are beyond anyone's control and that is called luck. Sometime you take every precaution but things still turnout to be bad. Just think long term, I am sure coming days will be better.
I won't recommend jumping off Minar-i-Pakistan as Minari-i-pakistan may crash just like real estate market, and jumping off minar is not solution to anything. |

Chacha Ji, I would recommend that you take Chacheeee with you and go on vacation for few days and NOT think about you investment for few days.
I am sure this change will give fresh start and you will fell more energatic.
And let's not forget that you are not alone in this. A lot of people have lost a lot of money. Thousands lost their life savings in this downturn. So be positive and thank God that you are still better off than millions of people who can't even afford to eat.
I have also lost a lot of money in this real estate and have learned bitter lessons, but I think that is life there are ups and down in everyone's life. |

I also lot alot of money or I could say have nothing in the Bank :) couple of properties I bought in Pakistan are down the drain. Bought when dollar was at 60 not its around 80, price is still the same in rupees and with additional 30% inflation, its pretty much gone. BUT I have faith in ALLAH, in some fasion he is returning me. In this critical economic times when I see lay offs left/right, I am still on the job (thanks ALLAH). I am healthy, my family is healthy and I have there respect and love. What else?? :) so chil buddy |

My advice is sell everything and buy a house in phase five (5 marla to 2 kanal) and buy a small commercial plot. Build a plaza and get a franchise from McDonalds or H. Karim Baksh or Subway (they had their ad recently in newspapers for the same). There is a lot of opportunity in phase 5 with lots of houses and no shops yet.
Chuchchi jaan can cook fresh roties and send you on the shop with mukhkhan and everything.

I think it would be useful for people to give facts and support their opinions with facts or logic rather than to give silly opinions. This is not directly at anyone particular but I am getting fed up with people on this forums trying to portray opinions as facts, which leaves the reader none the wiser and even more confused than before. Most of Projects in Ajman has stopped, but I dont know about shami Towers. Emirates city is better than others but still far from completion. I think work will be stuck for long time. Other projects like Marmooka city etc never started at all. Other problem is infrastructure like elctrict, water and sewage people say it will also take time as there was no concrete planning for that |

Rufi and others from Pakistan has yet done nothing there but has grabed money as they did in Pakistan.
Abu dhabi also started feeling heat.

I have taken the problem to read your link. I however form a different opinion. The demand would diminsh because of the world financial difficulties, therefore they have decided to delay $582bn, of construction activity. The affected projects would most likely be the ones that have not got off the ground yet, and are still at the drawing stage. This seems a prudent approach as if all these projects came online in the existing environment then it would lead to a glut in the market. However $500bn of construction activity is still taking place. Now how many countries are seeing that level of activity in the current environment?
I doubt that people would have paid anything or are certainly not the 50% of the costs the projects that are delayed. But if you use that yardstick then all the projects in Pakistan are a fraud as they are always delayed and never delivered on the sceduled time. |
