Is it true that if I want to travel few schengen countries and I get UK visa, it would be sufficient for me to move around in schengen countries as well as UK. OR I need schengen and UK visa together for this purpose. Thanks

Umer replied on Saturday, January 26, 2013 03:28 PM PST

NO, UK visa has nothing to do with Schengen visa , you have to get Schengen states visa if you want to enter any Schengen country.

Salman replied on Sunday, January 27, 2013 01:16 AM PST

U need seperate visa for both.

Most IMPORTANT:

If you have applied through Consulate "Country A", then You HAVE TO enter "Country A" firstly to move around to another Schengen States. In short, your schengen visa application country would be your frist entry in the schengen area.

This rules applies to all the schegen countries no matter which country you are applying.

shahid khan london replied on Sunday, January 27, 2013 01:24 AM PST

uk is not in the schengen states, u need separate visa if u need to travel to united kingdom

Ehtesham replied on Monday, January 28, 2013 07:05 AM PST

Two seperate visas will be required, one for UK and the other for Schengen states.

However, it is not mandatory for the issuing country of Schengen visa to be the 1st port of entry. This is a false impression.

Hussain Kaisrani replied on Monday, January 28, 2013 07:23 PM PST

@Limo,
Good luck for your visit to UK and Europe. I think that you should now stop researching and start practical steps for your trip. Too much research only confuses the matter.
UK visa is only for visiting UK. For travelling Schengen countries you will certainly need Schengen Visa.
I fully agree with Salman Sahib that it is mandatory that your Schengen visa issuing country would be the first entry in the Schengen area. Moreover it is a basic requiremment that you will provide travelling documents including tickets, hotel bookings, insurance etc. Your visa will only be stamped if these documents are provided. The dates of your tickets (entry and exit) is the period of your Schengen visa.

@Ehtesham Sahib,
I am afraid that your information is not correct. Please inform if you have practicle experience or share any link to update us about the issue.

Nadeem replied on Monday, January 28, 2013 09:10 PM PST

Mr. Ehtesham is correct. Last year in September i went to Germany, i got my visa from Italian embassy in Riyadh. I went direct to Berlin and came back from Berlin without entering into Italy. there was absolutely no problem in that.
i don't know if this is a new rule.

Hussain Kaisrani replied on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 02:00 AM PST

Nadeem Sahib,
Thanks for clearing the matter.
My personal experience remained different. May be it depends upon the country of origin. I applied for a Schengen visa in Norwegian Embassy from London. I had to provide to provide my ticket for Norway to confirm that my first entry would be Norway.

Nadeem replied on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 02:19 PM PST

Kaisrani sahib,
There might be something with the place of application or the embassy one is applying. I think mr. Limo shall contact the embassy he is applying to know the exact requirements.

Dual citizenship

Do we have dual citizenship agreement with USA and Canada!! I know that with uk, we do have. Just want to enquire in case one gets the citizenship of Canada, does he need to surrender his Pak citizenship.
Admn, pls let it for a while, thanks

flex-01 replied on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 02:18 PM PST

For canada, there is no issue of keeping dual citizenship. One can keep both the citizenships.

jk replied on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 03:50 PM PST

It is Pakistan who allow's you to keep dual nationality and
not any of the other countries mentioned above.

Limo replied on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 04:38 PM PST

@flex-01, thanks.
@jk, I have heard that there remains a mutual agreement and Pak has such agreements with 13 or 16 countries. Other than those countries, once you apply for the citizenship you are only granted after you surrender yours. Like Saudi Arabia, Austria and perhaps Germany also.
I have little extension to same query,....if I get a citizenship of any country surrendering mine, would I be eligible to establish any business or purchase property in Pak. Thanks

@ahmed, looks like you have not travelled to MiddleEast or Europe and then you will come to know why people prefer foreigh passports. One of the BIGGEST reasons is visa-free, hassle free travel to so many countries. I felt humiliated at Dubai Airport where they put you in separate queue for checks. Its the image of the country that has developed over the years.
I am not a dual national and love Pakistani Nationality, but sometimes, you really get irritated to miss education, job and business opportunities available to "priviliged" passports.

You may get the citizenship of any country but you will always be treated as a second rated citizen there. We,who travel or live abroad, need to improve our conduct and behaviour, only then we can earn respect for our Green Passport like we had till 1970. A personal note: I will never try to acquire nationality of any other country despite living abroad with family.

How do overseas keep their savings

I am an overseas working in middle east would like to know where one should keep his savings.

1. Any credible bank in the country where you live
2. Some here and rest all to be kept in some good bank in Pakistan
3. Open a foreign currency account in some credible bank and keep all you money there.
4. Keep some here, some there and purchase property, gold or dollars for the rest of the savings.

What prompted me to initiate this thread - As per my colleague whose couple of friends got affected and had to loose good amount of their money during uprising in Libya. Situation in the rest of the gulf is more or less same so be wise to be proactive and take measures now itself to safeguard any eventuality.
You input would be appreciated.

Jameel replied on Saturday, November 17, 2012 01:16 AM PST

It depends You are living with family or Alone, if alone then I will advise you to to keep in Pakistan with joint account with some trustworthy person. If you are with family you keep in any current or saving account like in UAE National Bank Abu Dhabi is most reliable. In Gulf interest rate is only nominal mostly less than 1% so current of FD does not matter,
In UAE and Saudi in case of Death of Primary account holder, the maoney is not automatically given to Wife and children, wife has to prove that she is only wife then she gets 1/8 of total and minor children have to wait till they reach 18 ys Before they can claim money. Even if you make wife as joint account holder she cant break Fixed deposit [both need to be present at time of closing or b=reaking an account].
So only solution is keep the Money in current checking account and keep joint with wife with instruction that either can operate it. And leave few signed Blank checks. It will safeguard you from some family emergency, If you are living in Bahrain then Other option is to keep in cash with you may opt for cash dollars.
Some people cashed most of their deposits before the demise of head of state in UAE in 2004.

You are in the Gulf or anywhere in the World, Keep your money in your personal bank account of your country of residence. It will not go anywhere. Just take care that dont keep it as cash or carry it anywhere in cash. Your Bank Card is with you you can withdraw your money whenever you need and wherever you are. Bank Cards are accepted by the ATM's universally. If you can manage Buy rent able properties and rent them out if you want earn profit on your savings. Never invest in joint ventures where you are not an active partner. Don't keep your money in rupees in present circumstances even if banks give you higher profits. your money will loose it's value, because rupee is depreciating continuously.

So just double check about what you said that money deposited  in banks would be difficult to take back if one expires. MJM can have a better say on the subject.
May i take liberty of posting few more questions here, it is about opening a foreign currency account in any of the pakistan's bank.
1. Would it be fine if I open in Saudi riyals instead of dollars.
2. Would it be interest free.
3. Shall I be able to draw money anytime I like.
4. My SR 1000 deposited today would remain SR 1000 even after 5 years irrespective of fluctuation of the currency rates during the period.

Schengen visa from riyadh

Dear friends,

I need some info about getting schengen visa from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A lot of stuff is available on the net but i want to know from someone who has taken it in recent years from Riyadh, like what are the requirements, where to apply, a letter from the employer is needed or not, how much time doesn't it take usually and does getting a sponsor letter from any of the schengen countries where some of my relatives reside make my case stronger.I will appreciate a detailed reply.Hope admin will allow it for a while, thanks.

XYZ replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 05:55 AM PST

1) Sponsor letter from your emplyor with your salary and certified from chamber of comerce office.

2) Airticket confirmation, Confirmed Hotel booking, Travel Insurrance

3) Last 3-6 month Bank statement

4) Visa application form which schengen country you r applying for.

5) Invitaion is not necessaroy but you job title, your Salary and strong financial bank statement is most important.

Rest you can call embassy of the country where ur applying for visa they will guide you.

limo replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 09:12 AM PST

javid replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 02:23 PM PST

health in insurance is MUST go to NCC Tawania in deplomatic are they are well familiar and ask them to make a health insurance for you for Schengen Visa for the period you will be in travel (2 to 3 month) Apply Austria Embassy they normally have lesser rush But still it can take up to 2 weeks.

In general it is advisable to apply in a country where you are going to land first.

Kashif Ali replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 05:22 PM PST

Dear Limo!

Just wanna confirm you that it is the rule, you have to apply in a country where you are going to land first.

Initially they are giving 1 month visa. but you will give them strong reasons for long time, then they might give you upto three months visa on initial basis.

Health insurance is MUST

When you will purchase the air tickets, some airline providing the option at the time to purchasing like , do you want insurance . . . check the rate, if it would be cheap then you will buy health insurance with the tickets.

You can also buy the health insurance separately. but it's the part of documentation.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply, just forgot to ask about travelers cheques....read somewhere in the requirements that original / copies of the travelers cheques (of the min amount that we should carry as per embassy calculation) also need to be submitted, is it true or there is another way so that they get convinced about our financial strength. This requirement is other than the bank statement which is a must of course, regards

javid replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 06:53 PM PST

You MUST need to have a valid credit card and embassy will ask for photocopy of this credit card for their record. No requirement of traveler checque I believe these day since you HOLD a credit card.

Kashif Ali replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 07:21 PM PST

Dear limo,

If you will check requirements for Schengen on official websites of France, Sweden, Spain for example. They need a proof for financial strength.

you can explain your valid bank statement/valid credit card/travel cheques in application form/cover letter as a proof of financial strength.

I have submitted my bank statement of last 6 months and they didn't ask me anything else !

Kashif Ali replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 10:36 PM PST

Dear Limo,

You can't enter Uk on Schengen Visa, the idea to get a visit VISA from Schengen countries is not good, the simple reason is that UK embassy never give exact timelines for the processing of visa (including visit visa). Also the chances to get UK visit visa is very less, if you wanna have a visa for sure, then you have to show strong sponsorship letter, or valid business or company trip. otherwise general tourist visa or visit visa, 90% cases are refused (this is only for green passport).

Now days for 70% cases they are talking more then 2 months for the processing of visa application, in case of delay they are not answerable to give you the reason of delaying. sometimes they are delaying for 6 months!

you should get Schengen withink 2 to 3 weeks. I got my visa in exact 2 weeks time.

javid replied on Thursday, September 13, 2012 11:18 PM PST

Dear Limo... Kashif Ali is 100% right. You can not have a visa from any other country then origin or country where you are working, as you are in Saudi Arabia and this special restriction is generally on green passport. If your main aim is visiting UK try to get Schengen first or other way around.

Credit card is most credible advantage to carry these days and some time not having gives shaky impression specially in Europe/USA.
Normally the chagres are high when you draw money otherwise it is equal to same amount you pay for any purchase, I will suggest you to apply and get it from your bank before you actually go.

Dear Faisal, for areas that are developed, there is no difference in trading, prices or maintenance. For areas that are being developed or have to be developed, market is a little slow, though development work is in full swing. For example Sector E in Lahore is an example.

In a nutshell, there have been scandals for many other societies such as DHA, CDA etc. however, there is no reason that Bahria will fall even if Malik Riaz is hypothetically convicted. Investment in property and especially in Pakistan is always risky and you must assess your risks before investing but there will always be risks in almost all the societies. Track record of bahria is that it has delivered excellently so far and will probably do so in future as well. That is the reason im an investor in Bahria as well and see no panic in this regard.

it was just some light humor for people who think that the largest project in Asia would come to a halt with the saying of a few people in the media, nothing would have happen even if MR was convicted.

Friends,

I would say do not forget cooperative scandal. My uncle lost all his life savings and remanined paralysed for seven years and died afterwards. If there is any doubt that investment is not safe avoid to put your money on risk. There are thousands options available other than BT.....Think.

A.O.A,
I want to buy one kanal plot in Bahria Town Lahore overseas A. What is the price range? Which plots qualify for low limit and which for high limit? What about 318 overseas A? What should be its price? I will really appreciate your comments. I want to take expert opinion of people like you before making any decision.

Jazak Allah.

Best Regards,
Farhan

According to my opinion, Sector B is better. Choose any block near the Safari Villas.

Sir only i m interested in above given options.

limo replied on Sunday, January 23, 2011 02:51 PM PST

sector c

Hussain Kaisrani replied on Sunday, January 23, 2011 04:36 PM PST

Dear stn,
Thanks for remembering me.

Keeping in view the price of plot and future prospects, I would suggest Sector C Bahria Town Lahore is the best option. Overseas Enclave A is also fine if the price is not higher than Sector C plot but the location should be close to Sector C instead of Executive Lodges.

The construction activity is on full swing in starting blocks of Sector C. You or your family can better decide where will you be comfortable to live. Thanks.

Dear Mr. Hussain Kaisrani,
It is good to see you on this forum again. Would you please clarify "but the location should be close to Sector C instead of Executive Lodges".
I got concerned because I have a 10 Marla corner plot in Overseas A and it is behind the Executive Lodges.
Would appreciate your response.

@stn, anwar ahmed Sahib has rightly put the names of block. Blocks are not much important but it is the location of plot within the block which matters. A plot in Gulbahar Block may not be good for living but a plot in Janiper block close to main mosque area may become more better. When you are constructing your home on one kanal then you should visit the area at least thrice in different timings. One of these visit should be at night. It will help you to make better and final decision.

@anwar ahmad Sahib,
Thanks for making my point clear.

@Amar
I am always there on this forum though I am living in London nowadays.
There is nothing wrong in Executive lodge area of Overseas Enclave A. As stn is planning to buy a plot for immediate construction of his/her home so I have suggested him Sector C area.
Good luck for your corner plot in Overseas Block A.

Imran replied on Friday, January 28, 2011 02:12 PM PST

go for Sector C near the main Masjid under construction.
