راوی اربن ڈویلپمنٹ اتھارٹی (RUDA) لاہور اور شیخوپورہ کی لاکھوں کی آبادی کو سیلاب کے خطرات سے بچانے کے لیے دن رات کوشاں ہے۔ اس عظیم الشان منصوبے کے تحت دریائے راوی کے دونوں کناروں پر 46 کلومیٹر طویل حفاظتی پشتے تعمیر کیے جا رہے ہیں تاکہ سیلابی پانی کو منظم طریقے سے گزارا جا سکے۔ یہ منصوبہ راوی ریور فرنٹ اربن ڈویلپمنٹ پراجیکٹ کا ایک اہم حصہ ہے جس کا مقصد دریا کو چینلائز کرنا ہے۔ اس حکمت عملی کے تحت دریا کے لیے ایک کلومیٹر چوڑا کوریڈور مختص کیا گیا ہے، جس سے سیلاب کی صورت میں پانی آبادیوں میں داخل ہونے کے بجائے اپنے مقررہ راستے پر رہے گا۔ اتھارٹی کے مطابق 20 فٹ بلند حفاظتی بند کی تعمیر کا کام تیزی سے جاری ہے اور ابتدائی مرحلہ 30 جون تک مکمل کر لیا جائے گا۔ وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب مریم نواز کی خصوصی ہدایات پر اس منصوبے کی رفتار کو مزید تیز کر دیا گیا ہے تاکہ مستقبل کی شہری ترقی اور عوامی تحفظ کو یقینی بنایا جا سکے۔
