Quetta: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Quetta has issued a reminder to Early Bird Commercial– Public Ballot customers. This notice was posted on its official Facebook page on January 6.


According to the provided details, the authority has urged all customers to fulfill their installment payments by January 12, 2024, to be included in the upcoming ballot.


Failure to complete the installment payment by the specified date will render individuals ineligible to participate in the ballot scheduled for January 31, 2024. The authority underscores the importance of meeting this deadline to ensure a smooth process for all concerned parties.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of Punjab’s first e-Registration Model Centre located at LDA Plaza, Kashmir Road, as reported by a news source on January 7.


According to the disclosed details, the newly introduced model e-Registration system aims to streamline the land transfer process in the region. To enhance citizen convenience, the Sub-Registrar offices of Ravi Town, Samanabad Town, and Data Gunj Baksh Town have been relocated to the e-Registration Model Centre. During his visit, CM Naqvi emphasized the need to establish two more e-Registration Centres in Raiwind and Shalimar by January 31.


Expressing contentment with the progress, CM Naqvi acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Senior Member Board of Revenue, Punjab Land Record Authority, and the administrative team. He revealed that the manual registry process would be discontinued, with over 221,000 registries already completed under the e-registration system.


While inspecting the centre, CM Naqvi delved into the intricacies of the E-Registration system, directing officials to devise an online fee payment system for the ease of citizens. He also took the opportunity to visit the Punjab Bank branch at the e-Registration Centre, interacting with citizens undergoing land transfer processes.

Islamabad: Recent statements from domestic steel producers reveal a substantial increase in steel prices, surging by PKR 7,000 per ton, as reported on January 8.


According to the latest information, effective from January 8, 2024, the revised prices set the range for steel rebar between PKR 262,000 and PKR 270,000 per ton. This spike is noteworthy as steel rebar prices have climbed from the observed range of PKR 259,000 to PKR 264,000 on October 31, 2023.


Analysts highlight that potential threats to this recent price surge may stem from disruptions in raw material procurement. A significant factor contributing to the sharp increase in steel rebar prices within the country is the prolonged delay in the arrival of shipments. Additionally, prevailing high interest rates are playing a role in the overall uptick in steel costs.

Government Initiates Activation of $1.5 Billion Uplift Fund


ISLAMABAD: The interim government aims to kick-start the operations of the Pakistan Development Fund Ltd (PDFL), a $1.5 billion state-owned entity, to offer an alternative financing avenue for public sector development projects. This involves divesting government stakes in public sector enterprises and engaging in public-private partnerships (PPP).


Established in June 2014 with a financial injection of $1.5 billion from Saudi Arabia to address foreign exchange challenges, PDFL has remained dormant under the Ministry of Finance for nearly a decade. Despite being a public limited company led by the Ministry of Finance, it was also granted non-banking financing company (NBFC) status to facilitate innovative financing sources for development projects.


The government now aims to activate PDFL by appointing a chief executive officer (CEO) to lead the entity into formal operations and attract foreign investment, particularly from friendly nations, for high-value projects and businesses in Pakistan. The CEO will be hired initially for three years, with the possibility of extension, to develop and implement PDFL's corporate strategy, business plan, and operational strategies.


The finance ministry anticipates completing the CEO hiring process before the caretaker government transitions power to the elected government. This will enable the entity to commence operations promptly, serving as a platform for international lenders, the private sector, and other stakeholders to streamline initiatives related to infrastructure financing and public-private partnerships.


The CEO will be responsible for engaging with multilateral and bilateral agencies, export credit agencies, local and foreign financiers, and investors. Additionally, they will oversee the management and administration of business assets and services, tapping into various funding sources.


The government has recently issued guidelines on Fiscal Commitments and Contingent Liabilities (FCCL) for federal PPP projects to enhance the quality and cost-effectiveness of public infrastructure. The FCCL guidelines focus on managing long-term fiscal costs in PPPs, providing clarity on the financial picture, and ensuring fiscal sustainability for sustainable implementation of infrastructure projects. The objective is to optimize private sector participation while achieving long-term infrastructure development goals.

Lahore: A recent report, dated January 8, discloses the progress made on the CBD Punjab Boulevard and Walton project by the Central Business District (CBD) Punjab.


During a site inspection, CEO Imran Amin announced the successful completion of 100 out of 148 retaining piles for the CBD Punjab Boulevard. Additionally, significant strides were highlighted in the construction of the Walton Road Railway Crossing Flyover.


Technical Executive Director Riaz Hussain provided a detailed update on the planning and execution of both the CBD Punjab Boulevard and Walton Road Railway Crossing Flyover projects.


The site inspection witnessed the presence of notable officials, including Chairman Fazeel Asif Jah, Commercial Executive Director M Omer, Project Management Director Asif Iqbal, Construction Director Asif Babar, Architecture Director Sameer Aftab, and senior representatives from NESPAK and NLC.
