Dear forum
I need guidance of experienced persons on an important issue. I recently inherited a house from my father which is located in a posh locality in Lahore but is about 20 years old. It has solid construction and no issues with structure. Only I want to renovate it to modern trends. It is 28 Marla plot with 4500 sq foot construction and single story. I want your opinion on following issues:-
best flooring options I.e granite, marble , tiles or wooden plies with rates. Best bathroom tiles / walls with fittings and their rates. Moreover what are options for paint or distemper. Or I should go for wallpaper or any other good paint options. What type of doors are good as I want to replace old ply with diar or ashwood or ready made stuff. Entire kitchen renovation to American standard. Please feel free to recommend imported stuff alongwith best pakistani,. I have a budget of around 3-4 million which can be increased also. In the end I don't want expert
opinion on all issues by one person but only of specialists. Any person who can execute above on good rates.
Thanks

masifjamil replied on Saturday, November 24, 2012 08:44 PM PST

First of all you need to be selective. There are almost 20 types of granites and same of marbles, There are various sizes too. Please visit show rooms, see the things, colour, and ask their
prices. Marbles can be purchased @ Rs. 40/- per sq.feet upto Rs, 600 per sq. feet and granite from Rs. 400/- per sq. feet to Rs. 1,000/- sq. feet. 6 sutar mota marble cost to 4 times that of 4 sutar mables. If you have to select big sizes i.e more that 1 ft X 2 ft size, you have to go 6 sutar mota marbles.

Start Shouting replied on Saturday, November 24, 2012 10:24 PM PST

Just for information, we all should have complete knowledge of Islam. Anybody who doesn't pray 5 time a day regularly has no right in his parents' property. He/she cannot inherit. The property should be given away in charity.

Rizwan replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 05:26 AM PST

Dear Start shouting: AOA, there is no such binding in Islam for inheritence. It is an order of Allah and should be acted upon without any pause.

Khan replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 07:35 AM PST

No your comment do not prompt "shouting". I feel sorry and may Allah help you in your thinking.

Asad replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 02:26 PM PST

i will recommend that get hold of an architect it will cost u but is better, regards

Imran replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 08:30 PM PST

The best thing to do is to repair and renovate the house to bring it in its original condition without spending too much money. Invest the extra money you have in another property elsewhere. The value of your inherited house will not increase by spending too much money on it, but the value of a separate property might double if carefully invested.

Sara replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 10:04 PM PST

I am not thinking in terms of investment but a comfortable living ay my home for times to come .

Mason replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 10:32 PM PST

A home is built and happiness prevails by love of members of the family not by walls. If you understand what I mean Miss Sara.

I think replied on Monday, November 26, 2012 06:44 AM PST

If it was a man asking same question as Ms. Sara did, then I dont think we would have gotten couple of those mullah commando action responses... such as: "make sure you pray 5 times before you think about inheritance" and the other one: "lecture about happiness in walls or something" all she wanted was a sincere advice about renovating ...I wonder if happiness walls comment friend lives in a ghoumpari ?

Imran's comment is worth consideration.

Shahid replied on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 01:02 AM PST

I am not sure why some stupid replies to a very simple and straight forward query. She is very clear and logical about what she needs. Sara, basically what you have is a good grey structure and you will have to do almost all the finishing, which can take about Rs. 900/- per square foot for a decent finish (about Rs. 4 Million for 4500 sq. ft.). There is unbelievable range of choices in all the finishing items you have mentioned. You just need a good and sincere adviser (the most difficult part). You can do some of your own research by visiting good Show Rooms at Ferozepur Road and Main Defense Road. Wish you best of luck.

Have we ever thought

Here we talk about millions, billions rupees, profits, investments, savings, land, villas, bungalows etc.

Have we ever thought of the "Poor Pakistani Brothers & Sisters" who in their whole life can not build a small room? Do they don't deserve a home in their life?

I'm not saying that we are cruel, not doing charity etc but just highlighting an aspect, placing a scholastic question that how can we grow as Society, Nation or Country where gulf between "Haves & Have Not" is not only big enough but also increasing day by day. Where situation that "We don't need it, they don't have it" is growing.

BTW; I own 1 kanal house and feel it quite bigger than my real requirements (may be conscience still alive, who knows?) :h :1)

Dear Brother,

1)Please tell me how i invest in education of my relatives. My father was poor. No one help me. But due to Allah Blessing & dua of my parents & my day and night hard work i become Electrical Engineer. Now i am getting handsom salary in saudi arabia. I tried to help my poor relatives. One nephew failed in matric & then sevral times in FSc., anther failed in FSc five times amd pass in E grade, one failed in BSc since last five years. How i help them whether to apear in exame in place of them. Most of poor people are poor because they want to remain poor. They are inept and lazy.
2) I also helped several people to stand on thier foot but failed they need bheek only.
3)This is beyond my means.
4)I agree.

Well if all your efforts could not make the difference then it is really not your fault you get the reward for your intentions and deeds. That is what Allah(SWT)expects from us.DRIVE HUMANITY TOWARDS BETTERMENT IN ALL POSSIBLE WAYS.
You can still improve (if there is a room) in scrutiny, selection and prioritization in and outside family but education is the only way forward.

babaG replied on Saturday, November 24, 2012 02:09 PM PST

Engineer.. you did your best in trying to help them. At this point, just help yourself.

Ahmed replied on Saturday, November 24, 2012 02:22 PM PST

@ Engineer your relatives need guidence as well
- Convince them to do some technical course like AC repair, mechanic etc. every one cannot be an engineer
- If dont agree make a small shop for them or even Fruit Rehree
- If nothing works out look arround you will find other than your relatives but brilliant, help them for studies

PROFESSOR replied on Saturday, November 24, 2012 08:43 PM PST

Brother ENGINEER FROM KSA: you think only engineers are rich, those who do not pass BE or poor, those do not pass FSc poor, look to Malik Riaz, Bharia Town Owner! the time will come for them also.

Dean replied on Saturday, November 24, 2012 10:31 PM PST

Professor, right now the talk is about education, not about making money!

Engineer from KSA replied on Sunday, November 25, 2012 12:37 AM PST

Dear Brothers,

Thanks for you comments. Topic is not minting money, it is about education.Realy i never desperate. I will continue my efforts.I belive only education can save us and our beloved country. I want to share with u one of my fellow story. His father was semi mad. He is the only male member of his family & homeless. His relatives give them a slum not to help them but to protect the land. All Doors were broken & windows without glasses, roof was badly leaking during rainy season. They were saving themselves from hot and chilled air by hanging clothes/rags.He even cannot afford tooth paste. He topped in FSc & then in BE.He scored full marks in TOEFL 677 & in GRE 2350(20 years ago highest in wolrd ever scored) & got scholarship from USA. When he appeared for visa interview in US embassy, lady counsellor had not asked any single question about his financial position or he will not return as these are usual question they are asking students. She told him that she never seen a brilliant student like him pakistan and stamped his passport.

Thanks for khurram shazad & other brothers suggestions and inshalla i will continue my efforts what so ever will be result.
