FBR Initiates Nationwide Campaign to Enhance Tax Collection and Combat Evasion in Pakistan


In recent developments, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has unveiled an expansive nationwide initiative aimed at bolstering tax collection, clamping down on tax evasion, and ensuring justice for tax evaders throughout Pakistan. This significant announcement was reported on September 11.


According to credible sources, this operation marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan's commitment to fiscal responsibility. It zeroes in on identifying individuals previously found guilty in tax-related cases who have exhausted all available legal avenues.


Media reports indicate that the FBR has received unanimous approval from various legal bodies, fueling its proactive approach. Consequently, the FBR has issued stringent directives to its field offices, emphasizing the accelerated recovery of taxes from those identified as potential tax evaders.


Individuals ensnared in this operation by the FBR are advised to promptly furnish the required documentation within one week of receiving a tax notice. Non-compliance may result in swift and decisive legal actions being taken against them. In instances of persistent violations, the FBR reserves the right to initiate property auctions as a measure to compel payment of outstanding taxes.

LDA Announces New SOPs for Building Control in Accordance With Lahore Master Plan


In an effort to bring the city into compliance with the master plan, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for building control, as reported on September 8.

This notification has already been made public. The Town Planning Director will no longer be in charge of the city's efforts against illegal structures as a result of the recent changes. The Assistant Director and Deputy Director will be responsible for preventing and combating unauthorized construction in the city.

The Town Planning Assistant Director's job description has been outlined in the building control SOPs. This officer will be in charge of doing daily inspections of the city's major thoroughfares and generating a list of authorized and prohibited properties.

Rawalpindi Ring Road Project Faces Complication of Missing Land Record

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Ring Road initiative has run into another obstacle. According to reports, the land records for a village in tehsil Gujar Khan that were essential for the project's acquisition went missing. According to a top district administration official, the land record for a town next to tehsil Rawalpindi is also missing. This situation makes acquiring land for the Ring Road more difficult.

This problem may have its roots in 2002, when a fire in the record room may have lost some important papers. However, three assistant commissioners are currently analyzing the documents with representatives from land revenue. The claims of missing records were refuted by Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha, who claimed that certain properties had already been acquired while land acquisition had not yet started.

A survey of the region has been started by the district land revenue department and the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). The RDA is currently asking the district administration for advice on land pricing. 36 villages will be affected by the project, with eight in Gujar Khan and the remainder in the tehsil of Rawalpindi, according to preliminary studies. The anticipated cost of the 38.3-kilometre-long project is Rs33.7 billion, of which Rs27 billion will go towards building it and Rs6.7 billion towards purchasing the land.
