This will be really helpful for many and ease the traffic a lot. A good short cut too.
LAHORE:
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will construct a two-lane underpass at the Gurumangat railway crossing to facilitate smooth flow of traffic between the Gulberg and Cantonment areas. The new underpass will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs103.3 million. The two-way underpass will be connected with Hussain Chowk through Kasuri Road. The underpass will be 13.6 metres wide. The height of the proposed underpass is 3.1 metres. Heavy vehicles like buses and trucks will not be able to traverse the structure. Around 40,000 vehicles will use the planned underpass daily. The LDA will fund the project. Of its total cost, the LDA will spend Rs7 million on land acquisition and Rs5 million on shifting utilities.

I remember in late 80's and early 90's there used to be an old man at the railway line junction, who would volunteer his time to manage traffic. Some folks tipped him with couple of rupees, others were idiots and did not. The old man did this job for the good of the people without be employed or asked for religiously, every evening. May his soul rest in peace |
