The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is working on establishing a university in Sectors I-15 and I-16 where a Joint Venture Housing Scheme would be launched in couple of months by the authority in collaboration with private entrepreneurs.

Sources in RDA said the university would be established on a vast land measuring more than 70 acres while negotiations are underway in this connection.

About other development activities in Rawalpindi he said the work to launch a joint venture housing scheme is in the process and is likely to be completed in couple of months. “We are constantly in touch with the private entrepreneurs for obtaining their land to implement the housing scheme. After obtaining some part of their land, RDA would start development,” he said.

While opening residential and commercial sectors, RDA would build a model university for the people of Rawalpindi. It would be a model in all terms, he said.

To a question related to non-implementation of construction work on the Elevated Expressway, Makeen Shahbaz said it would commence in the next two months and would be completed in scheduled time. At present the work of designing and study has been assigned to Nespak, which would complete its task in the end of December. After that this project would be started and work on it would be done round the clock.

Referring to parking plaza in Raja Bazaar, the director general informed that some more amendments have been made in it. “First we were to build a 7-storey parking plaza cum shopping centre. With alterations in it, we decided to build only ground floor for parking lot,” he said. However, RDA on the directives of the Punjab government has once again made changes in it.
