My cousine met an accident yesterday and got severe brain injuries. He has been taken to General hospital and been kept in an ICU.He is in comma right now and doctors say that they will have to wait for around 72 hours for him to regain consciousness, and after that only they will be in a position to operate.Just want to know whether he is at the right place. Is this hospital ok as far as medical staff, operation theaters, equipment and the atmosphere is concerned. Please share if someone knows about some better place for such injuries. Dear fellows are requested to pray for him, that he regains conscinousness at the earlist.

Yes he in right place for head injury, but advice does not seem to be good, Blood Clot first causes the Pressure on the Brain and then it Shrinks, so person may regain Conciousness,
I rember a case in UAE Abu Dhabi, when similar situation was there, They told the friend If you sign we shall operate and Friend singed, person Got 95% recovery, He can do all the things only Voice is only 90% Clear But he can speak.
Then I studied the cases on internet, A sutudy was published from India where they told If we dont opeate the results are better than operation, I was surprised it is the treatment of 3000 years old, and shamefully they were telling that Not to do any thing is better than doing, [only suppottive mangement when he is unconcious like Drip or Gastric tube etc]
last year my relative encountered similar situation, we opted for Sheikh Zyed Hospital, The patient was operted only minor Surgery [Burr hole]was done to remove Blood, He regained conciousness next day. But still he died due to Post surgical meningitis and other Complications, I got the chance to see about 5,6 other ptients Including Our patient 3 were opertaed. 2 Died and those who were not operated all survived but later Got Disability.
Conclusion is in Bad centers the Operative rates are very Bad, so not to operate is same as Opertion rather later is worse that is why Doctor advise that. Here mostly nothing wrong with Docs but Hospital staring from MS to sweeper, sterlizer etc.

My friend last month on 13th November also met with same type of head injury. He was taken to Services hospital by resue 1122 he was in his senses but gradually he started to lose his senses. Doctors advised their relatives to operate because of clotting.Relatives of his moved him to Farooq hospital where Dr. Anwar nerosurgeon operated him immedietely, the operation was of almost 4 to 5 hrs. After operation he got his senses next day. Now he is fine and is completely fit.
God bless u all.

AK i am Mahmood Butt's cousine.Probably you are Danish's friend.I just put it here to know if we could take him to some better place but most of the people recommend General hospital as the best place for brain injuries.
Jameel - Thanks for the explanation. Doctors talk about some brain swelling in his case, any idea what do they mean actually. Is it because of excessive clotting inside, or does it go away with the passage of time.
Tariq - Would you please give me the contact number as discussed this morning. Thanks

Dear Hassan
As u talked to me on mobile phone, ur no. was not shown on my mobile therfore i m giving u the no. of Mr. Sultan Qureshi the father of law of my friend
Mr Sultan Qureshi no.
Hsaan Ashraf khan no. (victim of accident)

I checked the net, Brain swelling means Brain Edema, If there is only Brain Edema and small bleeding then prognosis should be good witout surgery. But If bleed is Big, Then it should be drained, Usually Blood Clot is measured in ML size,Like 10,15.50 etc Take the CT and discuss with some private Nurosurgeon. If Tear of the brain [called cerebral tear] is also involved then Not to operate is better, But is just lay man assessment. Neuro surgeon can advise you better seeing the CT.
Hope for best

I pray for his full recovery !!

The Lahore General Hospital is best in terms of the Doctors and some neuro-equipment. However, the ward itself is overcrowded, rooms are dirty and lower staff is very lazy and incompetent. I suggest for next three days till the time he is in ICU, keep an eye on the machine readings and oxygen level etc yourself as well till the time Neuro dotors give a green signal.
Prays for your cousin early recovery and health

Mr Hassan, yes my uncle had a brain injury, he fell down and hit his head aganist the ground. We took him to OMAR HOSPITAL where Dr Shahzad shams treated him. He had a lot of small clots in his brain.
No surgery was done and was given only the medicines. He had a ct scan & MRI t that time. After one year, he again had the MRI, which showed that most of the small clots were gone, only a few big ones were there which were gotten smaller too.

DR SHAHZAD SHAMS is a neuro surgeon in OMAR HOSPITAL.

I wish & pray that your cousine be good.
