Friends I am very confused right now as to why even after the settlement of many obstacles which were facing Pakistan a couple of months ago have settled down, the property market is not picking up. The stock market has started to rise so why not this market. There are positive steps being taken by the Prime Minister which are being welcomed by many, the Bharati threat is now long gone so why aren't people investing right now. If possible can someone forecast as to when this market might pick up again.

Over supply of plots, more and more will come in market as the societies develop and give possessions. Open lands or plots are used as investments in Pakistan, ultimately those investments come in the market for sale. Also, property prices have fallen all over the world. Many countries have laws that if the allotee does not build within two years, the allotment will be canceled without notice. In Denmark (or Norway?) there's a law that if a property is vacant for a year then anybody can move in for free. I saw that on "The Travel Channel". In Russia the government gives free land to any citizen if someone wants to build a house. Same in many other countries. Only in Pakistan such system exists that first the government and the bureaucrats create an artificial shortage, then blackmail the people who genuinely need a home or place for work such as shop or industry. This is because in Pakistan, every politician and government is a businessman too, and they want to become rich overnight without having to do nay work.

Pakistan need foreign investment and confidence of expatriates is shaken and given circumstances are very discouraging for expatriates to even visit back home.
Cost of travelling to Pakistan from central Europe is double than travelling to Dehli, Dhaka ro Colombo.

The world is in a recession therefore it would be unrealistic to expect Pakistan real estate to pick up anytime soon.

Besides this I think there is a lot of supply of plots coming into the market over the next few years and prices will remain depressed for a few years even in the absence of a global recession and a credit crunch.

Prices in a country like Pakistan actually shouldn't be as high as it is, but it is the lack of alternative investments in the country and the artically engineered housing shortage that is created the rapid price increases in the past.

We should be creating a few new cities to keep pace with the growing future population and their need for decent and affordable accomodation.

Very interesting article/link on why the US will not allow direct flights from Pakistan. If you do not obey the US, you will be punished severely !!!!!!!!

Mr. Yesss, It was only PIA which was flying directly from US and it is only PIA which fly directly to Pakistan from UK.
No foreign country or company is interested to have any sort of social or bussiness links with Pakistan.
People from UK should be very thankful to Allah for the blessing of direct flights.
I'm not counting middleast or east.
