He was a matchless military genius and a visionary leader who had clear understanding of the issues confronting our nation. He was never a saint and did mistakes too.Lets be honest while describing someone.

Observer replied on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 07:26 PM

Military Genius managed to

Lose a war from India in Kargil
Open country's soil to open attacks from US
Makes us all a target for terrorists worldwide
Gets the economy to a state where not even utilitis are available
Makes justice a luxury no common person should have
Commits treason, takes over a legitimate government elected by people
Declares Emergency plus never heard before
Brings about seperatism in provinces
Encourages Q league and MQM like fascist parties+hypocrite Fazlu party
...

The only good thing to his credit is opening up Media which became a reason for his undoing in the end.

Zia replied on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 07:43 PM

He wrote in his own book that he agreed to all America's unjust bullying on just one phone call because he became afraid of the threat by an American junior official.

Many times he publicly told Pakistanis "do you want to be bombed into stone age? We are no match against America".

We, the Pakistani nation of 160 million people fed our army's supplies and budgets by cutting the destinies of our children to LISTEN TO THIS?? Wake up limo.

You say so innocently he made mistakes. Do you have any idea what kind of mistakes he made?

Musharraf is traitor and enemy of Pakistanis. PAKISTANIS FIRST!

yesss replied on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 08:06 PM

Musharraf was the best friend of the US, not Pakistan.
US interests are NOT always in the best interest of Pakistan.

Musharraf did not care because he liked hanging out with the BIG BOYS in Washington. He was orgasmic when sitting with the big boys.

Abrar replied on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 08:15 PM

He was a ruler who like any other ruthless military dictator relied on army to rule and made other vital civil institutions subservient to army. He damaged the civil institutions in this process. No matter how good, a dictator will always employ corruption and fear as tactics to prolong his rule. There may be some brief delusions of development but prosperity will not find its way to masses. Most of the time a dictator will leave behind a chaotic nation, similar to what we have now.

When i look at Musharaf's era, then it was far more better then this democratic era, apart from how democratic leaders, choudhries, etc hurt Musharaf's repo pretty badly, and also apart from he was anti-islam. but yes he was atleast good for Pakistan.

Waqar Latif replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 03:38 AM

@observer

everything is fine, but why exactly we like to give away the war which actually we won to Indian Credit? We didn't lose Kargil war, but main problem was that "Pakistan never declared any war". If they would then they could use airforce.. Also, Army failed since they were instructed to come back, and those who were defending india on front line, got killed because of supply cut off.. other then that, Pakistan put India on the toes, and the supply line of the india to Sia chin got cut.. & 1000s of indian army men died because of that. Also not to forget, how many indian army men killed when pakistani jawan destroyed many indian check posts during conquering LOC.

I accept Musharaf & NS both failed to support this act which lead to killing of many Pakistani army men.. But i can't accept we lose kargil war.. it was a victory over a gain who is 5 times bigger then pakistan.

those of u who like Mushy....do u behave in same manner in ur homes 2. If u do Allah have mercy on ur homes.

Waqar Latif replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 04:33 AM

@Majed

No one is talking about liking or disliking musharaf. Everyone is comparing Musharaf with current democratic system, & if u r fair to urself then u will have to accept some of the good steps from Musharaf like,

1. HEC development, 100s of people got scholarship, and due to this we have many PHDs, and M-Phils
2. During his time cement secter & Textile grown like big giants, and compited other giants like china, who were selling pretty cheap textiles & Cement..
3. 10000s of people earning growth to 4 times, and many of them who are still earning more then 1 lac think it is less.. since they are comparing it with Musharaf's era
4. No Tax growth throughout his whole tenor, while on the other hand, Mr. Zaradari put so many taxes, that it is not possible for middle class person to buy a car.
5. Dollar steady position on 60 for 7 long year, and on the other hand if we compare his era with previous or this democratic era, then we can easily find.. dollar went up for more then 17 rupees in this era, and 32 rupees in post-zia regime i.e. 11 years of democracy
6. quick run away from IMF, and Pakistan was out of this, but now thanks to this new democratic government we are again trapped in IMF. btw previously as well, Ms. BB gets all credit of trapping pakistan before to IMF

Apart from the bad things like,

1. Lal Masjid,
2. CJ,
3. Becoming American Alley in "War in terror"
4. giving licenses to many NGOs (without going into details in which many of them used to sell women (8 Oct earthquake is one example)
5. Privatization

& many more..

Javed Ch replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 04:33 AM

with due respect to all anti Musharaf, Musharaf was better than the present politicians who gave a loss of 30 billions to the country during long march. Can CJ alone put the country on the right track? can he be effective down to kachery level, if not, then the crores of poor ppl stucked up at kachery level for justice, now can they go to Ch Iftehar? not possible because a poor man would require minimum 15 to 20 lacs for an ordinary wakeel of supreme court and few crores for itezaz hassan.
We emotional Pakistanis live in FOOLS PARADISE....Cool Cool and be decent
Musharaf was better and is the BEST

limo replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 07:05 AM

Waqar, you looked balance while putting your opinion but about your point no.4 among the bad things attributed to Musharaf. Lets be honest to ourselves and ask whether anyone other that Musharaf at his place at that time would not have taken the same decision that Musharaf took (right or wrong is a separate debate)! It is a very simple equation that most of us are unable to understand. Let me ask a simple question, why present govt is unable to say NO to US. I bet, let Nawaz come in power tomorrow, he would also be toeing the same line what his predecessors have been doing so far. Yes its also true that we are facing the repurcussions of that YES till today. But i would love to see someone questioning the loyalty of Musharaf here when compared with conventional politicians.
It was Aetezaz who being an Interior minister handed over a list of suspected persons to India in 1988.
It was Nawaz, who being PM happily handed over Amel Kansi to US.
It was none other than Benazir, who said that if Bhutto can be hanged for starting nuclear program for Pakistan, why can't Qadeer be tried.
Javed Ch i agree with you that its only we who have paid to satisfy the personal ego of this CJ.I would say that if someone has to be blamed for the 40 odd killings on 12 May, its should be CJ.
Alpha name any one whom you think is not an americam pimp, the one who is not will never fit in this power structure.

Musharaf only cared for himself. His only concern was protecting of USA, mafia bosses, hoarders, speculators, terrorists, etc.

Zia replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 07:45 AM

His sad legacy is that he was put by destiny in a position of ABSOLUTE power for eight years. He could have done SO MUCH for Pakistanis. Not just Pakistan but for Pakistanis.

He used to say in his speeches to the people that previous governments did nothing. Then he himself used to answer by saying "They had no money". Everybody knows previous governments were not let to function because of non-government forces.

There are two types of people who are pro-musharraf:-

1. People outside Pakistan - Indian - Israelies - Anti Pakistan group

2. People in Pakistan - who made black money out of corruption and now it has stopped due to democracy.

BRN replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 08:54 AM

Observer replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 09:06 AM

Thats right musharraf lovers are vested interested groups like military(or relatives of military personnel), mqm, lota/lutera Q group and those who just hate Pakistan in the name of enlightenment.

Waqar Latif replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 09:20 AM

Limo,

u r right about.. but by this excuse u can't say he decision was the right one.. when i will come in comparing then ofcourse i will listen everyone, as Bhutto (who actually started this shit), zia (who toke aid for helping US, BB, NS, Musharaf, & not shitty Zardari... but they all are making bad decision and putting bad steps.. while joining hands with US rather then China, or other muslim countries...

@Army or Civilians

sorry to disappoint u, there is massive ammount of the people who analysis while giving favor to anyone.. & u can go through my above post.. Apart from, i am not pro-Musharaf, or Pro anyone.. but i know this Hadith (in a sense)... "When a nation start disobeying Allah's order then Allah put a leader on them, who do injustice to them".. So i think next will be the worst.. as..

NS was better then Musharaf, Musharaf was better then zardari, zia wa better then bb.. & so o on... now next will be the worst.. unless we change our attitude towards the religion.

oversea Pakistani replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 09:42 AM

We all overseas Pakistanis are missing Mr Musharaf very badly. He did his best for Pakistan under the prevailing situation at that time. This will be realised by my brothers in Pakistan very soon. His ability has been acknowledged by our friends and foes world over and he still enjoys respect from them, and their intelectuals still want to listen to him by inviting him with a garuanted VIP protocal. He talks there, on their soil while looking into their eyes, nothing but about the interests of Pakistan.
On the other side , just wait for few more months and see our political parties/leaders entangled with each other on petty matters thereby you ppl will say for your self," MUSHARAF WAS BETTER AND BEST " Long Live Pakistan

Hamid,Toronto replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 12:54 PM

Here is the list of bad and good deeds done by Musharaf

Good:
- Open Media
- Healthy and Liberal Economy policies
- Blunt in front of Media

Unforgivable Mistakes:
- Lal Masjid Episode
- Punga with Judiciary
- Destroy political system
- Privatization of Steel Mill
- Raid on Baloch Rebels

Moving forward, if we can build or maintain three institutions and control extremism then no one stop us going toward 21 century with great zeal and zest.
1) Media
2) Army
3) Political system
Media and Army are already two established institutions; all we need to do is maintain them. We are far behind in political system even Bangladesh is mush better than us. Military is not a solution here and they cannot take us toward 21 century.

Only logical response would be appreciated here

true replied on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 02:23 PM

many people are confused when answering about musharraf. they talk about his bad deeds such as lal masjid, but then dnt understand the whole country was critizing him before operation happened that he is scared to fight the mullahs inside then when he does they start critizing again, its this mentality which runs in pakistan

he did bad deeds, but had not much option. he was best leader to come to pakistan and we are allready seeing how country is being destoryed by democracy.

mush was the best.

We must accept that Musharraf is a blessed person, he has served the country his entire life. He survived many death attempts by all anti Pakistan parties.
He did a lot for instutions, every ministry and institution had a new look and style.
I remember during Musharraf's rule foreign ministry use to do press conference but today all interior and exterior matters are handled by Rehman Malik alone.
No politician can match Musharraf's cabinet.
Before we were a donor nation but today we are begger nation.
I live abroad and every day we receive travell security updates about Pakistan and when ever they see me they think I'm a terrorist!
Today, Afghanistan blamed Pakistan for terrorism and our President is quite on this! where as Musharraf is travelling around the world (on his own expense) to improve the image of Pakistan.

Waqar Latif replied on Thursday, March 19, 2009 03:31 AM

@true

1st of all, there was two groups, 1 was looking for negociation, & other was looking for army force.. but after operations he start criticize from both two groups.. 1st one who was looking for negotiation was criticizing Musharaf for this operation, and other was because this operation toke 6 months to happen, and only in that time when some other scenes were also going in the country, which means it made appears as operation to be a hiding ground for other issues. But both equally criticized for these things,

1. Negotiation was done between the army & that Mollah a night before, but what happen v next night (which no one able to explain), but most of heard some calls from US, which made army to step on this step?
2. There was around 5000 students + Administration, while only 1500 Students came out, what happen to other 3500 students & administration, since the casualties shown for only 134 persons.. which means army actually killed all others and also there was many news about sulpher thrown on the bodies.. and many bodies found in the sewerage system on Islamabad and surrounding areas..
3. What about 1000s of missing person? where are they, what happens to them..
4. Media were let in after a week into lal masjid & also The bunkers & armor shown in the media, where pointing about suspicion that the bunkers can't be create without the cement & other stuff required, how those people managed to made that in the heart of Islamabad, and also how those armor managed to read lal masjid, not only that, why those armors were just like new, like no one even touched it. & if they had that much armors, why they haven't made use of it.

& many more.. So what ever u think, that Lal masjid operation was a mistake, this is been saying from both parties.

Waqar Latif replied on Thursday, March 19, 2009 03:38 AM

Democracy just sucks.. I don't know when we say Iqbal is a person who thought for pakistan, why don't we go on his ideas.. He did huge criticism on Democracy.. His one book was dedicate on this purpose.. yet we cry for democracy.. and even give "Shaheed" word to someone who got killed for democracy (so called), like we think Democracy is from our God.. SO do we think USA & UK are our Gods? (Nauzubillah)
