Saudi Move,

(52106)
Sunday, March 22, 2009 04:47 PM

I have been offered a job in Saudi paying me 55,000 SAR per month. Can someone let me know if:

this is a good salary for a family of 5
what the cost of living is like in Saudi
how much can i realistically save each month

Ejaz replied on Sunday, March 22, 2009 05:19 PM

Dear Jamal,

Let me know your profession. Further, you did not mention location, other benefits. Apparently it is very good package. Just subtract from that Your House Rent, Education Expenditures and SR 3000 to 5000 for Kitchen.

Rest is your saving.

55,000 SAR is definitely good salary, provided its a good company e.g Aramco etc. I believe you will be living happily. Good Luck.

I think it is good enough.
I think you can rent an appartment of three rooms + kitchen in SAR/month.
Monthly house hold expenses should be around 1500SAR.
Expenses on clothings are same what you spend in Pakistan or any where else.
Education costs can be tricky, I assume you have foreign passport because in Saudi such salaries are not for those holding Pakistani passport.
You are better off leavign your children back home in UK.
You really have to struggel to spend your money.
Just try to nagotiate three months paid annual vaccation with 3..4 air tickets incl. family.
All the best.

House rent & school fees are the major expenses. Both these depend your choice of course. For peaceful living, look for accommodation in a 'compound'. This will give your family some freedom but then keep aside SAR9,000-10,000 per month as house rent. School fees will be more than SAR 2,000 per child. Another 2,000-3000 for car and insurance. Grocery/utilities would be at anoher say 6,000 per month. Realistically, you should be able to save SAR 20,000 per month.

Based on my 12 years experience in Saudi Arabai, I can say this is one of the best package one can get in Saudi Arabia. Top class engineers in leading companies in Saudi Arabia are getting not more than 40 k per month. Living in Saudi Arabia is not that much high as mentioned in some of above posts.

Pls. re-check offered salary. May be there is decimal point between the digits which is unvisible. It could be SAR 550.00 per month or SAR 5500 per month.

JK replied on Monday, March 23, 2009 04:21 AM

Bhatija is 100 % correct unless you are not appointed against King Abdullah

PROGRESS replied on Monday, March 23, 2009 05:12 AM

Dear Bhatija and JK, 55000/- is quite normal salary here in Saudia. No wonders that he can save a lot despite of heavy spending and living.

People from western or having nationality are getting such offers more as compare to eastern. There are some eastern people too earing such packages but have very high level education.

My uncle a UK national Doctor was hired on somewhat the same salary but they were after a real UK national if you know what I mean not a Pakistani which he turned out to be which they can hire for about 1/20 the cost.

Ask your employer to send a copy of job offer including salary details and should be attested by saudi chamber of commerce.

Salaar replied on Monday, March 23, 2009 08:16 AM

It is quite normal salary for highly qualified person, I know some one who is getting Bahraini Dinar 6,500 = 65,000 SAR per month plus free accomodation.

But yes it is very rare may be 0.5%,

We have to proud of pakistanis :). G O Pakistanio

98 % of overseas are living in Saudia batchural life from year and years, poorer can not find accomodation near by in makkah and Madina Munawara neither they are cheap while rich ppl can pray in their palaces and hotals with out going to Haram Sharif..

what purest form of Islam you are trying to explain. where ppl are kept as slaves. I believe you have not come accross with a problem in police station or Hospital and I wish and pray Almighty keep you away otherwise you will see there is no care for overseas even if one is dieing.

Dear Jamal,

are you sure its Saudi Riyal 55,000 per month? so you are telling they will pay you 14,627 dollars per month? Its not normal by any means in todays market? I would be pleased if you reconfirm.
