I have been in gulf for 7 years and noticed that expatriates have to face a lot of problems when they come across any disease of chrinic or acute nature.There are a lot of standard hospitals in gulf but expartiates especially belonging to low salaried or labour class can not access to these hospitals because of extremely high cost. Specially in Saudi Arabia, Govt hospitals dont encourage expats and they are forced to move to private hospitals where cost are very high.How it happens in the West, can someone share, and dont you think it is the basic right of a person living in any area to get the best medical treatment free of cost when neede.Is it not a human right violation !

Dear Brothere Razi,
We in KSA are fully covered by insurance companies, and can visit any hospital with minimum charges (fee, if applicable). I think it is only difficult for our brothers working on free visas (not having proper sponsorship), otherwise it is quite easy in KSA.

There is no ideal system for health care some where it is misused and in others it does not reach the patient.
In UAE Abu Dhabi and Al ain most helpful is Daman Insurance, You get both Govt and private treatment with minimal charges. But as systems are evolving so you need to Throughly study that what is system. And how to use it. Most of tricks are
What are outlets and what facilities are available there.
How to get referral to Consultant.
what time is good in week when Doctors have more time for laborious work needed for insurance.
How to get authorization for tests and procedures.
These are things are OK for elective non emergency type of visits.
in case of emergency you should know where to go.
For this type of things peers guide each other. For example one of my friend was telling that our insurance card covers for Dhs 500 for glasses. He was insisting we should use it. I did not know neither was interested. So each insurance and card type is unique and you can make best use of it by "Knowing your card" . |

in west it is an ideal system of health,i give you 2 eg. in germany all are insured if they are working or not,a worker is insured through his employer if unemployed paid by Gov.(social service)that means no need to worry,in uk NHS is free to every one but there is waiting time for operatins and etc.
Situation in gulf is not compareable with any of western country,i lived in above both places and also in UAE where if you dont have enough money you will be in trouble. |

From personal experience i can vouch that the health facilities for expats are miserable at best. Many are turned away from govt hospitals even in life threatening situations if they have no money. They cant even get cancer treatment as they are not eligable. The insurance for the majority is most basic covering zilch in most cases. Regards |
