dear, in wapda-kesc agreement there is a clause that in times of shortages wapda can limit supply to kesc. in past before ppp govt the wapda used to limit kesc supply in proportion to shortage in rest of country. why not now?
the argument that absence of 600 megawatt would make "little difference" in rest of country but big difference in karachi is just laughable. first of all no one is asking to curtail all 600 megawatts, but to distribute fairly and evenly. besides that if karachi is 10% of pakistan, does it mean that 90% of pakistan should happily suffer 1 more hour of already severe load-shedding to save the 10% from 9 hours?
if a father takes away some parts of a badly needed resource from 9 brothers already suffering and gives the whole sum of those parts to 1 brother so that he suffers less, is that fair?
now, the electric power supply to kesc is indeed not the major part of trouble. the troublesome and gruesome part is the distribution of natural gas for power generation.
furnace oil is four times more expensive than natural gas. the kesc is being given 130 mmcfd natural gas of its requirment of 270 mmcfd equivalent fuel, but the northern areas genco's are being given absolutely no gas for their requirement of 446 mmcfd equivalent fuel. is that fair?
