Dear brothers,

My son qualified entry test of Chemical Engineer from COMSATS, Lahore. Now they want to receive Rs.66000 immediately to confirm the seat which is not refundable. He will give further test of PIEAS, NUST,GIKI and FAST next month for Mechanical and Electrical discipline.
Can you please tell how is degree of Chem Eng. of Comsats, is it approved by the PEC and worth or should leave and try for others.
I heard that GIKI has not standard as before and it is very expensive and in remote area. If qualifies, is it ok to go for it?

COMSATS=Don't go for chemical Engg.If still want chemical Engg. better to try IET Multan or PU & UET Lhr. for chemical.

Better to try for UET,NUST or GIK but in Electrical Engineering.

Thanks Mr. Johar, I will go as you mentioned - GIK, NUST, UET. But can you please tell me also about the PIEAS as some people it is the best but some people do not know even the name and importance. So I would appreciate if you or someone could tell if PIEAS is also the best for EE and ME and well known in the Middle East for employment.
I think GIK is more expensive than NUST and PIEAS. Thanks for comments.

His preference should be UET Lahore, Punjab University, and then any other university. I think Comsats is approved by PEC but please check with them. PEC is manned by extremely rude and incompetent people so pls dont get bogged down / distracted by their behaviour.

Dear abid,

I suggest only Electrical , Electronics & computer science from NUST, LUMS, FAST. GIK become worst.

Dont go for Chem or mechanical.

To me following should be priority
in terms of discipline and merit:
Elect.
Telecom
Computer
Mech.
Chem.

In terms of institution:
UET Lhr
UET Taxila
NUST
GIK
PU Lhr
IET Multan
anyother approved PEC institute
USA,British ,philpines

In terms of Job:
It depends that how you reflect yourself.For first job in PAK usually people looks institute as well with some theoratical questions.After some good experience then only your job capabilities and experience and basic qulification.
In gulf,for good jobs,considerations are given to your field experience,basic qualification and specially companies in which you did job.

Anyhow people in KSA are doing jobs who even did engineering from philpines or non recognized PEC institutes and are getting good salaries.In short its your luck and depends upon your know how of the market and engineering field.
But for higher studies you must consider world recognized universities at graduation level as well and some universities even PEC registered are not world recoganized for higher studies.Even for migration/job to canada or UK, basic recoganized engineering institute is always priortized and considered.
For UK, NARIC checks your degree recognization at world level regardless of PEC approval for any job in UK or migration.

How much does it cost for a 4 year engg. degree course in Pakistan in a good uni. what are job prospects for engineers in pakistan and abroad. Like how much a fresh EE graduate expect in Pakistan and in Saudi / UAE etc? my son is also nearing uni studies.

Perhaps you do not know, LUMS has also started Elect Engg program that is hugely popular. LUMS has recently built billions ruppees facility for this program. Also LUMS has best Computer Science faculty in Pakistan with highly large student/faculty ratio. I was just wondering why you did not mention LUMS in your list.

My son got admission in uk,natinghum trend university. he wants to do BBA in business from that uni. i would like to ask that what is the future of this degree in pak,UAE,saudi and uk.

i just want to know it is would be gud after completion of BBA in bussiness he have a bright chance to get job in above country.

Please also check with HEC (Higher Euducation commission) and ask whether Comsats degree in chemical enginering is approved.
You may also find list of Approved degrees and Universities in HEC Website it self.

My suggestion is to go for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Through Chemical has its own scope but if your son can get the merit/admission in Elct/ or Mech. Engg. then consider it on priority.

GIKI Standard is education is more impoved and still it is No.1 Enginnering institute in Pakistan.
Please also advise ur son to apply in EME/NUST, NED (Karachi) and CASE (Center of advance studies in enginnering -Islamabad).

Dear Mr. Khan,
Jobs in Pakistan will not much attractive Salary wise. however skill, development and environment wise it would be.
Your son may get better job opertunities in DUBAI and Singapore (the managment and Business Hub of Asia).
He may also get job and 1-2 year employment pass in UK after compleation of his bachelor degree.

I would suggest you and check more advance degrees in Business and managment and also consider other universities like Bermingam, Queen merry etc etc.

In LUMS, The School of Science and Engineering was established in 2008 for Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Electrical Engineering.
I tried couple of times to get information from LUMS WEB about this but no success. Keeping in view the LUMS business school success we may solely forecast this school success but I didn’t see its accredit on PEC website or else may be it is under process.

Nottingham Trent is not a Red Brick university http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nottingham_Trent_University . It was a college later on became a university.

If your son can secure a place in a Red Brick University (i.e. Birmingham University, Nottingham University, Oxford, Cambridge, etc..), than it is definitely worth sending him to the UK.

Jobs wise UK economy is not doing great at the moment and probably for another 3-4 years.

I wish people would stop sending kids to UK just for the sake of it or status/showing of purposes.

Entertainment wise: for students especially boys Nottingham is a great place to be a student!

It is interesting to see how this topic has caught the interests of people. Yes education is perhaps one of the top most priorities of families. Just a couple of points.
1) Pakistan Engineering Council & Higher Education Commission should be more proactive in educating people on which institutions are accredited and which are not.
2) More research is needed by private rating agencies on the ranking of Pakistani institutions on different criteria of quality. If banks are rated and regualted, why not educational institutions where people invest so heavily in terms of time and money.
