Dear Friends, AA,
I am using small blue printer to make the first draft of my home of 50 * 90 in Defence Islamabad,good tool to be used before you can go to your architect.

Please suggest any good suggestion. This is the ground floor. Same will be in basement except the Srv quarter and an additional bed room. 5 in total.

Dear MK, Following are my suggestions..

Adjacent walls for Kitchen and Dining, with a serving window inbetween...
Its good to design a room as they do in hotels,,,On entry, washroom on side,,its easier for cleaning, maintenance and looks nice,,Then comes the room bed and then the window, One corner can have chair/table...,

Drawing and Dining are over dimensioned, a circular table takes lot lesser space so that space can be saved..
A curved wall for drawing dining between store and kitchen will give effect of spaciousness....

1. layout: i would have taken the lounge to the rear being a very private place.
2. drawing is sparingly used for formal guests, may like to reduce the size.
3. Combine dressing with bath. Increase wardrobe space. it is hard to accomodate clothes of two persons in one ward robe. walking clossettes may be considered for the Master bed.you have given too much space for the common /living areas.And when you came to bath+dressing you were left with no options.

A good plan waisting no space. Following may be considered:-
Drawing can be shortened.
More wardrobe in Beds.
You can add another window in each bed to have good circulation.
May leave some mre space on entrance to avoid guest getting into
lounge directly.

Plan your layout as per your requirements & taste; also these days many new designs are available to incorporate privacy & convenience.

I am using MS Visio for the same purpose & found it more flexible to design layouts.

A house map doesn't work unless you go into minute details. That is to say Plan Space for laundry, pantery with kitchen, placement of refrigator, electric points for better illumination, inbulit designed dressing table in changing room, curve for wall unit flat TV in lounge, place to install split unit AC in and outdoor. Water pipes should be kept out side the wall as much as possible. All wiring internet/cable telephone/intercom/UPS must be planned.
Missing all that leaves with modification latter on or placing appliances/furniture in odd positions. Also must see a furnished room of the size you have planned.
Remeber a small curve/cutting/desighning of walls not only makes a house funcional but also asthetically appealing.

Can people please share some contacts of good Architects in Lahore, who can help you to include all these small details in the house plan.

In addition to valued readers comments recent trend is seperate Drawing and Dinning.Lay out plan is good but stairs are not shown.
May have provision of laundry.

- Bedrooms are just too big. 12x14 is sizeable enough.

- With 9x6 or 8x6(instead of 9x5) washrooms you can have a tub inside. One side must be six foot.

- Rectangular rooms (living, drawing/dining) look bigger (26x14; 30x15)

- Use of glass walls between drawing/dining & Lounge increases visual space and hence makes the house look even bigger.

- In 50x90, i have seen designs where there is a separate dining room instead of a combined drawing/dining, 3 bedrooms on the ground floor, lawn almost as big as yours and a porch for 4 sedans and a swimming pool as well. How? every inch of space has to be well thought through :)

- But it is important to share your objectives with the architect.

there is some error in your measurement calculations.Decrease every measurement @ 09 inches per wall.
