I am sorry i am submitting a non-property related question here but this site seems to be the most active Pakistani community on the web.

I am coming to Pakistan next month and i wanna know how many laptops i can bring with me without any custom duty.

Currently me and my wife are planning to bring 3 overall. Can we bring 3 laptops (2 people) with us without any custom duty? How many laptops per person are allowed?

I know someone posted this before too but that link is more than 3 years old. So may be someone has some new and confirm info about this?

Please let me know

Thank You

not sure but i think 1 laptop can be carry by one person

One lap top per person is a personal item, like your bag/purse or your camera. you shoud carry one each. Third one in your check in baggage will not be safe, being an expensive item. So get a bag which can accomodate two laptop or put the third one in your hand carry.Unless you declare this personal item, why should the custom bother you.And besides you are not bringing it for commercial reasons, it may be a gift for a person whom you love.
If I am faced with such a situation, bringing an innocent item like Lap top for some one, I will not care for the custom.
These custom people always bother those who care for law.And you are a law abiding person. you have nothing to fear.
what is lawa? Common sense, you need a laptop and so does your wife. the third one is a gift. I am sure you should face no problem.

This has happened to me. As per law you can only carry one laptop per person. Period. Whether you claim the second one is a gift or even charity, customs can charge you duty on it. But don't just go and declare it to the customs. It's a question whether you can conceal it. What they will do is pass your luggage through the scanner, and if they spot an extra laptop in your bag. they will give you two options; 1. open your luggage after such a tiring flight and then pay them hefty duties. 2. Pay some cash to them (around 100 dollars per laptop) and go home. Never go for option 1, as they will try to harrass you so much so that nobody in future will try to declare anything honestly. They don't make money from option 1.

This topic was discussed in an earlier post two years ago.

As said in that thread, I still believe two computers or laptops are allowed but they try to not let us know. I and some my relatives have been through with two per adult and were not asked. May be they didn't see those.

If I would have been asked then rather than giving them money of bribe or 'duty', I would have shown them printout of their own website. If still pushed for bribe I would have silently recorded conversation and payment (thanks to mobile, pen or button camera's), and would have put the recording of bribe transaction on youtube, in hope of discouraging this practice in our society.

@ Laptops, I am disappointed to see you openly encouraging bribery !!!!, screw them and we should be honest

@ Naveed you have a wonderful idea, if they ask for bribe and worst case no option to get out, record it put them on you tube, send to officials etc so they learn the lessons

I once brought in two laptops and was stopped by customs. The pot-bellied bugger in white started harassing me, as if I had just been caught with contraband.

I explained to his senior that both were clearly used, not new, and I use them both for my professional duties. The senior guy said I could go.

Naveed, you are also mujahid. If we have only 10,000 people with this courage and atitude (and put it top practice)in Pak, things will immediately start changing. Lets hope more and more people find courage to stand up

Dear Kashif,
Talking of my experience and knowledge, you can only carry one that also if you have stayed more than six months abroad. However having an FERC (remittance card that can be obtained from embassy) sometimes can help in carring any additional laptop.Depending upon the type of FERC you are holding, certain duty credit is awarded to you which may be used at such occasions. But you should be be done with all the calculations before leaving, like how much is the custom duty for additional lap top, how much duty credit is balance against your FERC. hope it helps.

u can bring 2 laptops as your peronal/used laptops. But hand carry these and take all the packing material off. Put both of these in one bag. If questioned , u can say that one is out of order and needs repair. most probably nothing will happen. i have done it many a times when i brought one for my relatives.
