Pakistan, although it has strong potential to be an entrepreneurial nation, there are certain problems that prevent it from being so. One of the problems is land development ventures. The profits from the land-game being higher then from productive business activity, the attention, efforts and capital shift from productive business to trading in land/plots leading to rise in real estate prices. Thus, the land-game adversely affects entrepreneurship/business. Land development and allotment in Pakistan has been an opportunity involving all those with surplus wealth, including, civil servants, judiciary, politicians and the army personnel. This may have become the single most impediments to development of entrepreneurial or business environment in Pakistan which locks funds that could have been available for productive activities/business.

i agree the reason is Pakistan is hugely dependent on foreign remittances. The overseas people find no outlet for their money except to invest in land. Mostly it is not to make only single dream home but to transfer money and save it from inflation.
In the 60s when this market was not significant then the favorite business was to establish industry. we need to have Govt backed secure investment companies with good liquidity to earn trust back.
Recently engro has has been allocated big area in thar Coal field to develop it. If engro Rupiya certificate is used for that purpose with good intentions. it can prove a good beaning.
There are lot of potential to be tapped in Pakistan but it needs investment and more than that honesty. |

The complex situation of Pakistan's economy has risen in the recent past while lots of opportunities remain un-tapped. If we take a deeper look into the complexities of today & match with history of similar nations we get the answers of revival – cruel; & not very calm - but eventually fruitful. West was also sunk in dark ages & came out of it by their efforts but let’s look at Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, India & Turkey. Despite their indigenous issues they managed to stand on their own given their geo-political situation. I can bet on a single source in all these cases & it is EDUCATION. Its a two-tiered sword which invites individuals to introspect within themselves & thrash out their own potential, vis-à-vis, opens new avenues to tap virgin available resources on one hand while it revolutionize the society to combat evils in its politics & in the economy in the longer run. By education I mean not merely the literacy but it should entail, research, development & implementation. Literacy alone will only increase the number of clerks. In short run the ideal is to develop relations with these emerging nations & the middle-east even at the people to people (individual) level.
Pakistan has over 65% youth & they must be aligned & channelized to the different areas of sciences. This will be the crux of make or break as nation, otherwise adverse results are eminent. I would suggest to those friends who are interested to invest in Pakistan & are not finding suitable investment than the real estate should re-consider their thoughts & try to involve themselves in some educational & vocational programs. Especially the expats have vast experience of dealing with other nations & they better understand & develop relations with foreigners can help bring educational revolution; and if they can join hands or may convince &/or influence large industrialists to sponsor some research institutes with definite goals, this fill fetch positive results. |

Excellent Mr. Pardesi. I live & work in Abu Dhabi. I propose the following in the Name of Al Mighty Allah & His Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
1. Let us try to form some sort of NGO to target poorest areas of our country for the purposes you have highlighted (Vocational/Polytechnic institutes).
2. Try to get land for our projects from Govt. or Charitable people.
3. Take one project at a time. Build it with the help of Expats. Chritable people and Local population.
4. Creat a fund (in the shape of a fixed deposit)for the successful running of the project.
5. Ensure an honest & transparet procedure for all the above.
This all may seem impossible but when there is a will there is a way.
