I agree with everything listed above and based on that I would say that basement is very good to have if you have the money for it, but you must make sure that you have a very good foolproof design for it so that it does not become a pain later on.

You dont build a new house again and again and if you can get the extra space in the same size of plot from the beginning your house becomes usable for a lot more years while your family grows.

Despite some failures, more & more people are resorting to the construction of basements. Think of a large family living closer to each other yet enjoying privacy of separate entrance/exit comparatively in a smaller plot or larger space in a similar plot with convenience within OR arranging a small family function. Adding to the above 'Pros' you can have an extra study or play area for children, make it an office, a clinic, boutique, a beauty parlour, coaching center, etc. OR rented out the 1/3rd of the covered area available as free space.

I have recently started the construction of my dream house with the basement. May Allah Bless it with His Benevolance & Love. The total covered area will be almost 5000 sqft. at 14 marla Insha-Allah.

I think Lower Groung & Upper Ground floors design is better than Full depth Basement Design. In this deaign Lower Ground floor is well ventilated & Sewerage & Water supply do not cause problems because they are only feww feet below the ground level. So far the climatic conditions (Hot in winter & Cold in summer) are concerned Lower Ground Floor behaves similar to the full depth basemrnt.

Can you please upload some maps of lower ground/upper ground floors just to give an idea how it looks. Also, can you give some details like how it is done like refilling of land etc?

agar aap basement apni zarorat k lehai banarai hai to well an good.agar aap rent out k lehai bana rai hai to noksanday hai.itni zeha cost jo aap basement par lagahai ghay. uthni doosari kohi invesment kar k aap rent say zeehada profit hasil kar saktay hai.

Question posed by Haroon is a valid one and I too am searching for this very answer.

Due to power crises (which will probably only get worse in times to come) one cant rely on electric motors to dispose off the water and sewage.

Any other options for water and sewage disposal besides bore hole?

Is making a bore hole even allowed in DHA?

Dear Asif.
I live in UAE & have no such facility here. However, if you can get hold of Bahria Town's "Design for Living" there is a house design in this book on a 50x60 ft. plot using the concept of Lower Ground & Upper Ground floors. I got this book from Bahria Town during approval of my house plan in Bahria Town Lahore which by the Grace of Al Mighty Allah is now almost completed. In simple words you lower the Ground floor by say 6 ft. & still you can have two more floors (Upper Ground+1st. floors) within the permissible building height. In this design your washroom etc in the basement remains above the main sewerage line.
