Dear Readers As salamualaikum
Through this prestigious forum I want to draw your attention on a very serious issue, which most of the house builders ignore while constructing their houses, ie the Under utilization of Ceiling Fans and more bathrooms than actually required :
A. Ceiling Fans :
1. For nearly 6 months the ceiling fans are not used in most of the hoses in Upper Punjab, KP, Baluchistan etc
2. The cost of switch board, dimmers and wiring is also added in the cost of ceiling fans
3. Dust and maintenance during this idle 6 months also effect the efficiency of ceiling fans
4. Ceiling fans installed in all the house are never used at a single time rather they are used on required bases
Therefore I would suggest to not to install the ceiling fans rather use the Padestal Fans as and when required, or Ceiling bracket fans. This will save wiring, switches and cost of extra fans
B. Bath Rooms :
1. Attached bath with every bed room not only consumes the valuable space, but also expensive fixtures
2. In Saudi Arabia and UAE etc there is no concept of attached bath rather two bed rooms have a separte bath room
3. The insects, smell and fumes from the bath room also come in the bed room directly
4. The access to the bath room is from inside the bed room, which is also unhygenical
Therefore I would suggest to make half the bath room and isolate them from the Bed rooms

A. Ceiling Fans
The fans run 8 months. Ceiling bracket fans are no good options as they can cover the area like Ceiling fans do. Pedestal fans are nuisance, eats your storage space and then wires are hassle as well. These days no one likes open wires for neat looks and for safety reasons as well.
B. Bath Rooms
Yes, these should be avoided especially at upper floors.
Access from inside room is purely for ease, if you have proper exhaust/ventilation, there is nothing unhygienic about this. Married persons (especially) need access to bath inside room. :D |

Ceiling fans are generally more efficient than equivalent power pedestal or bracket fans. |

Bath room suggestion is understandable but not cieling fans in view of their not long use and save money on tiny electric nobs. Cieling fans of good quality are more efficent and safe than pedestal particulary in children house |

Don't get discouraged, both suggestions are very correct and I know many more fundamental flaws in Pakistani house design style.
Even the whole town planning is a mess in Pakistan.
Trust me I'm a design engineer, working abroad and have lived and worked in Saudi as well. |

In my humble opinion not only there should be attached bathrooms there should also be an extra one so that when you have guests visiting your home they don't have to go in your bedroom just to use the washroom. I know households where both husband and wife are professionals and need to leave for work at about the same time in the morning. They have TWO attached baths in their master bedroom so that there is no waiting. I think having enough bathrooms is one thing western architects need to learn from us. Flaw is in their design not ours.
Not having ceiling fans may be tolerable if your house is centrally air-conditioned if not then relying on pedestal fans would be unwise for reasons given above by others.
After spending carors on plot and building saving on one bathroom and 3 fans is unforgivable. I agree that our town planning is a terrible mess but our house designs are usually wonderful except that no body cares about neighbor's privacy. All kinds of windows are opened in every direction without design coordination between neighboring houses. This is the only flaw I find in Pakistani architecture. |

I don't mean to offend anyone but I believe that bathrooms and kitchens are the most neglected rooms in Pakistan. In the west people spend MOST amount of money on beautifying these two rooms which includes proper ventilation, lightings, upgraded sanitary/vanities and keep the non-shower areas in bathrooms completely dry. If you do those, you can have attached baths that are not only convenient but also a great place to spend solitary time in. Also having a bath in common area for guests is an excellent option and is also a standard here in the west. |
