Dear Friends,

My son is preparing for the entry test for admission in B.Sc. programme in different universities. As some univ. have very high merit and may be difficult to get admission like in PIEAS, GIKI, NUST, FAST etc. My son wants to get degree in Software Engineering but I think it is not in demand in Middle East as I never seen any ad of this category in the newspapers while I see every Sunday demand of other jobs like Elect. Engr. Mech. and Electronic Engr etc. Can you please guide me which programme has more value in the Middle East to get a job.
Is degree of Elect. Engr in Electronics from FAST is also worthy or BCS is better than it.

if he is good in programming let him go in computer sciences.
otherwise all the engineerings are good especialy mechanical and civil because less competition because private universities are not offering these programs.

so chose the filed which haave less competition

If he likes computer science, let him do this. As far as demand is concerned, this is a demanding field all over the world and will remain so in near future. He need to choose the specific area in IT after getting degree in CS.

I will talk about UET, Lahore which is second to none to any engineerng university in Pakistan, where merit is very high as far as Electrical and Mechanical disciplines are concerned which are most sought after every where in the world. Admission in these disciplines depends on the marks obtained in F.Sc., and the entry test. For CS, the degree at UET, Lahore is called B.Sc., Degree in Computer Science & Engineering. If your son has studied Computer Science in F.Sc., and has mental attitude to study Computer Science further, then he must go for this Degree. Do not force him for the degree you like him to obtain. Any how good luck for your son!

there is always going to be demand for Software engineers as everything is compuetrized now. From banking, civil engineering, military to traffic control; all require computer engineers.

I will recommend that he should go his software engineering, especially if he likes programming.

Software Engg degree from FAST (NUCES) is best. Second is Telecom Engg from any reputable Uni.

LUMS is the best in Electronics Engineering. As far as I know, they have already completed their admission process. You can check with them.

All depends on the marks your son will obtain in FSc Exam. if +900 he should go for NUST / UET otherwise he should go to reputed private universities. Even in private universities merit is applicable. Whatsoever, make sure one thing that the University & Engg Prgram is recognized by HEC and PEC.
