One must commend the 'inventor' who is trying to come up with something better. The interesting feature is that this prodcut should also help during winter. For most people, though, the cost is prohibitive, especially if retrofitting. So I will share a cheaper solution I just had done at home a couple of weeks ago. Some small time contractors offer a heat treatment, which is really just white paint mixed with some kind of glue and few other basic chemicals. They spill it on the roof and spread it with a simple paint roller at the end of a stick, so it is very fast to do: 2200 sq ft took about 3-4 hours. I paid Rs 7/sq ft (and the bill says 7 yrs guarantee...who knows if they honor it). But the difference is that you can walk barefoot on the roof if you like, and it is comfortable and where it is not painted it is seriously hot. Indoor temperature and effectiveness of a/c improves immediately. The previous summer I had just had simple whitewash (kali) done, but it washed away in the rainy season. Hopefully this will last a few years, I guess that is why they put the glue in the paint. The guy I used is Tahir: and they proudly tell you they are DESCONE :) These kind of simple and cheap solutions should be pushed or promoted by the govt. The payback is so fast. I hope to fly over lahore one day and see all roofs gleaming white. |
