The Punjab Gov’t has decided to allot the land of Bio-Technology Park to Ashyana Housing scheme Lahore.
After this, grand project of the Botany and Zoology are likely to hit snags.
CM Shahbaz Sharif had laid foundation of the project of Bio-Technology Park on 275 of acres in Rakka Tera situated at Barki Road about 20 kilometers m from Lahore in October 2010.
According to the project, research in botanical and zoological fields as well as was also to called out. Some teachers said that the Vet University establishment was declaring the very portion of land unsuitable on which they had laid the foundation of Bio-Tech Park.
It is going to be done under pressure from the provincial government.
On the other hand, the VC is of the view that they lacked economic sources for the construction of the park; therefore they showed willingness to accept 138 acres land situated at Pattoki.

when the VC's are government appointees, this is what happens. Our nation needs research in bio-technology so that we can use latest techniques in agriculture and animal farming. This land was perfect for such a venture and it had be set aside for this purpose way before the present government came into power. When you push away such projects to far flung areas such as pattoki, you are basically making it impossible for educated class living in big cities such as Lahore to be a part of it. we needed this within or around Lahore. There can be zillion ashianas but our nation will never progress without more and more advanced educational and research institutions. We need technical education instead of the useless MBA'S that we are producing in most of our private-sector institutions. |
