Dear Brothers,

I want to construct my house in Naval Anchorage Islamabad. I would request all Brothers on the forum to advise me on use of conventional bricks verses cement blocks keeping in view cost factor, weather effects and durability. How about use of bricks (called kinger grade).

Regards

@Mohsin Khan.

1.Hollow cement blocks are used in Frame Structure Construction which is costlier, stronger & lasts longer than construction with bricks. Hollow blocks have very little compressive strength, simply fill the gap between columns & beams. They provide better thermel insulation due the air traped inside them.

2. Brickes are used for Load Bearing Walls Construction which is relatively fast, reasonably strong & lasts for a reasonable length of time if maintained properly. For house construction this type of construction is common.

3. Kinger Grade bricks are, usually, used in foundation walls upto DPC level which is burried in the soil below the Finished Floor Level. They are also broken into pieces (Rorri) to be used in the floor. They are not used for construction of walls above the floor level because their surface is not smooth & you can not get required finishing after plstering.

Those who can afford should go for Frame Structur Construction particularly for the areas prone to Earth Quackes.

Regards.

Dear Mohsin Khan.

Regret my unabality to comment on your request because I Live in UAE & have no idea of Cost/Sq.ft of Frame Structure Construction. However I recently build my house in Bahria Town Lahore by a contractor @ PRs. 1600/Sq.ft using bricks. & am happy with the quality of construction.

Regards.
