Woes of DHA residents

THIS is apropos of a letter published under the heading ‘DHA plots not yet allocated’ on Sept 6.

The woes of the residents, especially Lahore Defence Housing Authority’s J block in Phase 1 in close proximity of Village Charar, are much greater during the rainy season.

It is a low-lying area, so all the rainwater gets accumulated here. This has resulted in significant loss and damage to people’s houses and their belongings, including furniture.

The years 1996, 2008 and the current year need to be particularly mentioned.

The DHA never informed the owners of the plots to take steps like raising the plinth level or constructing the bungalow on a raised base.

In fact, it seems that DHA officials took all the wrong steps like raising the street level of the Charar village and closing the drain passing through the Defence Club, where a building has been constructed, which has aggravated the suffering of the people living there.

The water level is often so high that residents are unable to use their vehicles.

Almost half of the sewerage lines remain closed under maintenance with the result that sewage gets blocked, damaging household items.

Several applications have been sent to the DHA management to take care of all these problems on an urgent basis but in vain.
