I AGREE with the list of so-called DHA performances mentioned in Talha Siddiqui’s letter (Sept 27) and Shaukat Rizvi’s letter (Sept 29). I just want to add a few more points with regard to the much-trumpeted performances by the DHA with regard to its oldest area, i.e. DHA Phase 4 and more specifically Commercial Streets 3, 4, 5, etc .
This area during every rainfall, whether light or heavy, resembles a menacing small river or ponds making these streets inaccessible for at least three to four days even after rain stops. Choked manholes, broken/damaged/choked sewerage lines speak of the much-talked-about high performance of terribly rich DHA authorities which only believes in minting money.
Every rainfall destroys several household items. The flowing rainwater enters almost 60 per cent houses in these streets of DHA-supervised vicinity. It is not easy to raise house levels so frequently as most of them are almost 15 years old and some of then even older.
When these houses were built, the road level was much lower.
I have raised my house level three times during past eight years.
Each time I take it a foot higher and even now it is one-and-a-half feet above the road level but every year water comes into our home due to clogged/choked sewerage lines and lack of management planning to stop accumulation of rainwater.
It was indeed a sight for sore eyes to see new sewerage lines being planned and built. However, those lines have proven of no use since the water accumulation is the same, if not worse.
For the management, the DHA places only a single small machine to pump out water from one end of the road during rains instead of going for a permanent solution.
DHA vigilance is seldom seen to give a feeling of security since existing vigilance teams are totally ineffective.
There are no efforts on the part of the DHA to combat malaria, dengue fever as well since frequent spray is not in vogue effectively.
Such dismal management issues, lack of serious effort new projects are nothing but new source of making more money.
