Dear Readers/Experts

I am working in Saudi Arabia since last 16 years and I bought two files of DHA 9 during year 2010. Today I received final notice by FBR Pakistan to submit my tax assessment for the year 2010 by paying Tax of Rs 675,000. As far as my knowledge is concern, I consider any Pakistani working abroad is exempted to pay tax in Pakistan and also is exempted to submit tax assessment.

Please advise,

Its quite unusual to see the FBR sent notice to person holding files (Not plot)... Strange Govt or FBR or whatever...

Just write them a letter telling you are living outside Pakistan and you bought files with money sent from abroad, include receipts and this should close the case as they think you are in Pakistan.

Dear brother do not worry at all just do as Akhtar sahib has done & if u like copies of PRC r more than enough

I have been into exactly this situation, and I am also working in Saudi Arabia.
Just send them a proof of your employment abroad during the period you bought the files, so ask your employer to give you a letter on company letter head, stating from/to dates, no need for attestation from chamber of commerce & industry but having it would not harm either. Attach copies of your passport, Iqama, NICOP, business card.

Write the letter addressed to Asst. Commissioner Inland Revenue, BTB Unit ... bla bla bla............ requesting for tax exemption and attach the above mentioned docs and smash to them!

Good luck!

thank me @
