Zakat is due on any amount excessive than your requirements/expenditures and remains with you for one year. Incase of plot, if you purchased for investment purpose, it was extra money with you and you have to pay Zakat after one year according to the market value of plot. However, if your intension is to build a house even after ten years then nothing to pay even if you already have a house. The moment you change your mind to sell it the Zakat will be due afterwards. The matter is purely between Allah and the indvidual, so, if you are not clear about your plans than better to pay to get a plot in 'Jannat'. Remember, every year, you have to pay according to the current market value of the plot. I got this information from a scholar in Saudi Arabia. Jazak Allah! |
