I need advice from friends on how to protect my house as I live in UAE. Although my house is in a gated community but leaving empty creates a sense of insecurity. Is renting a good option or having a security guard? Please advise on pros and cons of each option.

Sell your house and buy plot/s in DHA Lahore Phase-7. When you finally come back to Pakistan, sell those plots and buy a better house.

You need to be more specific about your objectives. Will you be visiting it every year, or never. What are your arrangements for payment of bills and taxes. Don't you have any person/relative who can visit it once in a while. Suppose there is a leakage due to rain. Your question does not say what are you talking about? There are many people who live abroad and have there houses back in Pakistan. It is no big deal.Make your questions more specific.

Saeed, If you have a servant quarter, I would highly hiring someone reliable to live and take care of it. I have done it and feel safe about my investment. Additionally you can ask a relative to visit it once a while.

If the house is something you will use at least once a year or more than keeping it for yourself is a good idea. If however you don't intend to visit there often, renting to some one decent is also good, but there is ware and tear with renting, which you should consider. If generating income from the house is not an issue then i believe hiring some servant is a good option. Good luck!

Mr Khan, Rashid and KS thank you for your responses.
Mr Khan: Yes, I and my family will be visiting the house at least once a year. There are a couple of relatives who also live nearby and can visit my house occassionally. I agree with KS that renting will cause some wear and tear but having a servant will cost money as well and God knows relying on a servant is not safer than relying on a tenant with a family. I am not keen to collect rent and only want physical protection of the house both inside and out. So its a bit complicated decision to make.

Saeed bhai, Servant will cost around 13-15K monthly, which I believe is a fair amount to pay for full-time care of the house. Most people pay 8-9K for servants in Islamabad area but they provide food on top of that.

My advice is to pay top salary, so that you are not stranded by your servant in case he find someones else to pay an additional couple thousand ruppees.

Alternatively Khan bhai's suggestion is just as good. Compare the cost of the two, pros/cons and make you selection.

I raher have some trusted worker living there than be empty, even for a few days.
