Sorry for non-property topic but it might be helpful and informative for several.
I ordered a few clothing and shoes items over the internet to be delivered to my home in Lahore. The total value of items is Pounds 450.- (Rs.65,000).
Now GPO Lahore are asking for Rs.40,000.- custom duty on these items. I tried a lot to explain and negotiate the amount but failed. They told me that if I do not pay and receive the package, it will be auctioned to public :). I finally paid the amount the received my stuff.
Amazing Pakistan, 40,000 custom for items worth 65,000.- Rizwan replied on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 08:42 AM
Dear Brother, First of all u should have checked with custom department before putting order. and salute to those govt officials who refused to negotiate. I am surprised we still have few people in public sector who are adhere to their duties. If everyone shows this behaviour we would have a different Pakistan. |

Rizwan, I agree. It was my fault. I should have checked and hence I am not blaming anybody but myself. |

Pakistan is highest taxed country in the world. Once you start off from your house, you atart paying tax. In return you get humiliated by the matric pass appointtes. |

Most of the items r taxed 53% aaproaximately in pakistan unless they r related to industrial use. So calculate before buying or do under invoicing. Like 450 pound can b showed around 300-350$ and thn u pay 53%. same like we do when buying n selling plots n register deed on dc rates :D |

I had a bit similar kind of experience with GPO people. My brother from UK ordered a Game DVD cd via internet and gave my address in Pakistan to be delivered. unfortunately the place of shipment was India. I waited long for its arrival, after a month i received a notice from GPO that my parcel has been detained at GPO and i should contact there. When i contacted GPO people, they told me that because the CD is made in india and shipped from india, according to rules it can not be released and it is detained. |
