Received a notice of property tax. Behind the notice is the formula. It is 25% of rental value assessed. The rental value is determined by an inspector. In our case, the house was not on rent. We were handed over a tax notice of 30,000. One fine morning a team came and "sealed" or chained our gate with a notice pasted at our main gate. We paid the amount. Still the inspector insisted on graft but opened the seal. The officer at that time was Fawad Hussain Fawad who was known for such tricks. The same episode is being repeated this year. No explanation of rental assessment is given.
