Have a very happy, healthy, safe and prosperous new year to all.

Khan replied on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 07:11 AM

Is it permissible for muslims to congratulate each other and give duaa on the new year based on the Gregorian calendar without the intention of celebrating it ?

Praise be to Allah.

It is not permissible for the Muslims to exchange greetings on the occasion of the Gregorian New Year, and it is not permissible for them to celebrate it, because both of these matters involve imitation of the kuffaar, and we have been forbidden to do that.

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4031; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood

Moreover, offering greetings on this day that comes back each year comes under the heading of celebrating it and taking it as a festival, which is also forbidden.

And Allah knows best.

AoA: May God give us Knowledge to Understand things according to their "rooh". Religion also teaches us that how to live in this world as a batter human being who give happines each other.I think we need to listen poetry of "bhula shah & Allama Iqbal" very closly. (Sorry for my poor english.)

unfortunately many muslim brothers want to forbid every thing for the sake of nothing, hadith 398 al bukhari states that the prophet saw stood up when he saw a jews funeral passing. also narrated in bukhari that hazrat Aysha RA stated that prophet SAW had borrowed money froma jew while he died. what we lack is tolerance at all levels.

People like khan taking Islam away from youth by making it complicated."communicating in English also imitation of the Kuffar"
Islam is very Easy religion please do not complicate it.
May Allah protect us from such things.....

neelum replied on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 01:39 PM

we are imitating in each and every things:
-cars,
-Mobiles,
-tooth brush
-scissor
-pant shirt,
-shoes
-language

can khan give a list what we should do (if not imitating)where there is no imitate?

isloo replied on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 01:46 PM

Khan Sb..posting on a forum using technology developed and spread freely by these kuffar should also be prohibited..please use a forum developed by muslims for welfare of muslims only....

If you can greet them happy new year and christmas, may be some of them will be inspired and ask you more about your religion...

I agree that its prohibited to have beliefs like them and do prayers like them because we have our own clear instructions for them.

Khan, Internet is also invention of Kafirs. You ve done kufar by using it...

AHM replied on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 06:38 PM

Mr. Khan, thank you very much, I fully support your advice to all those who are influenced by West. You will find hundreds to oppose and will protray themselves as moderates, pitty on them, Allah will give them hidaya.

Dear friends, all of us should know the meaning of the wishes we are making to others, gor instance, wishing merry christmas is believing on trinity and birth of god's son which is against Tawheed oneness of God. Please do not copy other religions, Islam is the most modren religion.
Allah bless us all! Dare to oppose wrong doings!

Irfan replied on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 07:19 PM

I support Mr. khan and AHM.

isloo replied on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 07:47 PM

Please try to understand, greeting someone on their event does not mean you are believing in them. There is a distinct difference. I am working in the west and many of my christian colleagues say "Happy Eid" to me only because they know its my festive day and many of those eat sweets as well which I nornmally take for all office colleagues....

@khan,irfan,adeel, Please do not celebrate your children's Birthdays or parents Anniversary or anything that can give you happiness just because its started by those living in West !!!

Islamic Calender was started long after the demise of Holy Prphet Muhammad (PBUH) in th time of the Caliph Umar . And in the time of the Holy Prophet this same Georgian or greek calender was followed. Only the months were Lunar i,e, according to the sight of Moon. So there is no question of Georgian calender being Islamic or Non- Islamic. And Holy Prophet never forbade to greet on the arrival of new Georgian year. So why you people create confusions in the minds of general public and bring religion amidst every thing

Hussain, BW replied on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 07:54 AM

Please don't complicate, stop shouting and shooting on the name of religion on every step of life. We belong to the umma of Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) who is Rahmat-al-Alameen not for Muslimeen only. So greet everyone and spread the message of "love" which is taught by all the Holy books. Think about Muslims today, how many are prepared to go or help to save our brothers in Gaza, yes there are many in Syria and Bahrain killing Muslims to earn Dollars. May God help us to save Pakistan (Ameen).

Allah save us from those who have time and intellect to spend on matter that have no impact on the main issues faced by us. Look at what issue is being discussed. No wonder we can be "the lowest of the lowest". May Allah give us sense to discuss more serious issues than what we are doing. Let us promote honesty, sincerity, productivity, keeping up our promises, fight against poverty, fight illiteracy, and fight against adultery in food items and medicines and such social matters.

We shall seek advice from Quran first, and if it is not forbidden clearly there than... we it all depends on what is in your heart.

We shall be very very careful while crossing swords over Ahadees and forbidding things, which are not forbidden in Quran.

I have learned that history of Islam was documented maximum only 300 years ago! How come we be so strict over the books of Ahadees written in last 300 years?

It was only Quran which was documented immediately after the death of prophet pbuh, because arabs started to read it in local dialect hence Umer ra and abuBakar decided to bring it in written, hence they wrote and distribute many copies of authentic Quran.
