Freight charges from usa to pakistan for household items

Bros, living in usa to please help as i wish to send my household things from usa to pakistan. Any1 who knows the rates and good frieght packing and sending firms on the eastern coast.

20 feet container costs approx $3200 - $3600. US to Karachi port. There are mutiple firms. Google it and then call several ones before comitting. Make sure to obatin transfer of residence form from US consulate to avoid paying any custom duty, otehrwise add a few lakhs cutom duty in pakistan plus a lot of aggrevation. Dont forget the transfer of residence form. You have to arrange a local truck from karachi port to your final destination in pakistan. Make sure to do that on your own, otherwise be prepared to pay 3-4 times of the legit cost.

I have just transferred my old household stuff (furniture, electronics and personal affects) to Pakistan from UAE and won’t recommend anybody to do that unless you are transporting something unique and dear to your heart. All electronics are available at almost the same price with local warranty and installation and so as furniture and other stuff. You can ship your personal affects (bedding, clothes, linen, crockery/cutlery, books, toys, etc.) as air cargo (according to weight door-to-door delivery), which is little less of a hassle.
Nevertheless, if you decide sending your stuff, do it by a container 20'or 40' depending on the size of the cargo and never ship stuff as loose cargo even if the items are less than full container load.
Check with embassy in USA; in UAE they have stopped giving TRs. You have to show your passport at customs in Pakistan while clearing goods. More importantly, please note, that electronics regardless of its age is still a dutiable item. So add a handsome amount in your calculations for duty which they will estimate.
Last but not the least; get a thorough quote for clearing things in Pakistan as well. It is a normal practice of packers and shippers to give you a quote till Karachi port without disclosing the clearing charges to be paid at Karachi, first to the shipping company for issuing the DO then to the local port authorities. I found these to be exorbitant. There is no harm in getting door-to-door quote in US itself for comparison and getting it verified by a local clearing agent in Pakistan (needless to mention whom you trust). Hope it helps...

Thanks for your detailed information. Infact, I also have to send one washing machine from UAE to Lahore. As container will not be suitable for this one items so what are your recommendation? Any idea about its duty and clearing charges at local port?

Any guidance in this connection would be highly appreciated.

@ Zamil,
I strongly recommend not sending any electronics from UAE to Pakistan. All major brands are available in Pakistan at almost the same price and if you add duty and freight, I am confident that it would be more than the price you pay for similar model in Pakistan. Moreover, they offer local warranty and installation which is very handy. In case you decide to send the machine, I recommend doing it through Dnata at their Dubai Cargo Village office. It will cost you a fortune but the process is pretty straight forward and can be done without agent.
Otherwise, you can get many numbers of movers from UAE yellow pages www.yellowpages.ae under cargo section. Ring at least 6 companies to get the quote and discuss all charges till the machine reaches your home in Lahore. My recommended mover is GAC www.gacworld.com/dubai. They are bit expensive but very professional. Hope it helps…

I know a company named Nesmah Cargo based in Ajman: +. Good to send house hold items e.g. Fridge, washing machine and other stuff. For Electronics they charge AED 5 per kg + packing charges and AED 40 for documentation for one shipment. I have tried them few times and they are good.

What is the reason that prices of DHA-9-10 are falling daily, but there is almost no change of prices in other phases. Similarly prices of other societies are also stable as compared to DHA. What can be the reason behind it?

Even at this low price buying DHA 9/10 make no sense. Because if u add the dev charges possibly 12-15 lakh the final cost would be around 27 lakh, so in my opinion buying DHA phase 7 is better.

My view is that for phase 9/10 , u only pay 14-15 lac only and balance in developemnt charges (which may be around 12 - 15 lacs) over a period of time, so it gives u installment options, rather than taking out 30 lacs or so for investment in phase 7 in one go from your sdavings/business. ALso, for expatriates like me, we will also benefit from a weaker rupees over a period of time , at least 5 years or so, when the development charges are due.

Also, with phases 6,7,8. being developed and people start living in them, prices of these phases will increase ,which will also result in higher prices for phase 9/10

Today meeting there was meeting in defence about Formanites Housing Scheme. A body developed Formanites Dealer's Association to push management to start development in Formanites Ph-1. Management already planning to start further development soon. Friends I suggest who have low budget to buy plots in Formanites Housing Scheme but only in Ph-1 where to build home today and live.

Srounding area already high priced but I strongly recommended to buy in Ph-1.

If common people trusted on Watoos and spent their money in their project then it was their responsibility to fulfill promises.....why people are begging to pls secure their money??? even I would say that few property dealers are also involve in this fraud.....

Bahria is good but very expensive. NFC 2 is a fraction of BT price and has better approach from both Multan rd and Canal rd. Price is low only due to delay in development.

And just forget about Statelife-2. It is over hyped paper scheme. It's map is dummy. It's hand made and has no approval of any kind. Still crazy people are buying on a dummy map out of greed and hype. Soon they will cry of fraud but they are only themselves to blame.

ring road is a dead project for now. beside it is too far from state life ph 2. seem like you own s/l 2 file & somehow want to make it best. but argument of ring road is foolish. if ring rd is good for s/l 2 then it is good for every scheme of lahore.

s/l 2 is just kaghzi karwai. the insiders will buy cheap plots and new map will come in which current buyers of good locations will be robbed. if you think s/l 2 is best, then tell me why s/l does not issue an official map. there is a fake map in circulation and statelife does not even put their name on that map. go and ask s/l management to give you a map of ph 2 and they will tell you there is no official map yet and the map printed by dealers has no official meaning. they say you cannot claim that you have this or that location on that map.

you check it first. they have not put their name on it. it is privately printed & put inside by a dealer who is underhand friend of s/l management.
