Lahore: The Planning and Development (P&D) Board has given the go-ahead to six development schemes in the emergency services, road and bridges, sports, and irrigation sectors, according to a news source on November 29.

Details reveal that the meeting, chaired by Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, approved various initiatives amounting to PKR 9.504 billion. This includes:

Construction of Arifwala Bypass at a cost of PKR 784.908 million

Construction of an interchange on Khanewal-Lodhran Road at a cost of PKR 2.731 million

Strengthening of Emergency Services in all districts of Punjab, with a budget of PKR 756.851 million

Provision of Cricket High-Performance Headquarters in Faisalabad at a cost of PKR 1.245 billion and a similar center in Sialkot at a cost of PKR 1.323 billion

Improvement of water delivery performance and conveyance efficiency through the concrete lining of irrigation channels in District Performance & Conveyance Efficiency-II, with an estimated cost of PKR 2.663 billion

Meanwhile, Chairman Iftikhar Ali Sahoo visited the development project sites of the controlled access corridor from Niazi Interchange to Saggian Interchange and from Saggian Interchange to Babu Sabu Interchange. During the visit, LDA Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed provided a briefing on the progress of these mega projects at Babu Sabu.

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a significant growth of 340.5% in tax collections from immovable properties during the fiscal year 2022-23, as per a news article on November 28.

According to the details, the FBR's latest report highlights an increasing reliance on withholding tax, showcasing an annual upward trend by accumulating a staggering PKR 1.87 trillion compared to PKR 1,417.5 billion in the preceding year.

Remarkably, all major components of withholding tax displayed positive growth, with the sale of immovable property leading the way with an extraordinary 340.5% increase in collection. Following closely were profits on debt/bank interest and securities at 106.7%, salary at 40.1%, and electricity at 38%.

The news source notes that the highest contributor is the withholding tax on contract payments, constituting a significant 21% share. Delving into specific sectors, withholding tax collection from the salaried class exhibited robust growth, reaching PKR 264.335 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23, a substantial increase from PKR 188.736 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, marking a growth of 40.1%.

The report highlights that the top ten withholding tax contributors accounted for an impressive 94% of the total withholding tax collection during the fiscal year 2022-23, indicating a slight uptick from the 92.5% recorded in the previous fiscal year.
