Lining water tank

You know how intense this summer has been, particularly in Lahore. It's very hard to take a bath even in the evening. I am thinking of making an additional wall outside the water tank at a distance of a couple of inches from tank's wall. Also covering the roof with concrete slabs.

Please guide whether this will help keeping the water cool. Is it required to insert something like thermopore in the space. What would the most economical solution like cheap wooden planks etc.

Hot water does not feel painful until around 41-42 C, so source of your discomfort seems not air but sun.

It probably just needs a shade from direct sun, perhaps by canvas or corrugated sheets. Or otherwise paint the sun facing sides white.

The canvas option may be more optimal because it can be easily removed in winter to utilize warmth of sun.

Size of water tank is not small. It's about 5ft x 4ft x 4ft = 80cu.ft (2265 liters). Pipeline serving the washrooms has about 10ft exposure to the sun that may also be covered.

Mr. Naveed Yaseen: I know that hot water may not be painful for elders but for children it is. Idea of a canvas is good, please advise where can I buy that. Corrugated sheets will be ineffective after rain.

It seems an overhead concrete structure which takes the water to your wet areas thru gravity. Fibreglass tanks have no such issues, they have four protective layers inside and easy to install and maintain. Even in the fibreglass tanks, if you go for cheaper ones, they won't serve the purpose as they don't have protective layers.
That's why having an underground water tank in regions where ambient crosses beyond 45 deg C as main storage tank is the best idea. Water is taken to OH water tank where it stays for a short while before being used, hence no such issues.

I think it is a good idea to erect second wall as proposed by yourself. For insulation you may fill the gap with ground wood (Barada) which you may obtain from any saw mill. I had done it with water tank in my house and was satisfied with the results to be able to use water both during summer and winter. Regards.

If you have indoor water geyser....please use it in Summer (for sure without turning it ON---lolzzz). This is called reverse engineering......Since geysers are normally on ground and mostly under shaded area of walls so the water is not that hot as the roof top tank,,,,This is Cost Free solution,,,,,,

@Khurram sb. I am not expert but I believe DHA any phase is safe and worth to invest. I was trying to buy Phase 9 extension file but due to short supply of extension files I bought phase 9 file recently. Cheers
