Punjab's Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, recently conducted an official inspection of the Maraka Interchange - Ring Road Southern Loop-3 (SL-3) project in Lahore ahead of its anticipated opening. Following his tour of the SL-3 development, CM Mohsin Naqvi addressed the media, underscoring the project's significance for Lahore and the commitment of the government to expedite its completion. He particularly highlighted the importance of the Maraka interchange, which will connect SL-3 and SL-4, greatly enhancing travel between Lahore, Kasur, and South Punjab.

During the visit, representatives from the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) provided CM Naqvi with an update on the SL-3 project's progress. They reported that the project had achieved 100% completion in terms of the joint survey and road cleaning tasks. Furthermore, 20% of the work on 8 bridges, 5 subways, and 14 drainage canals had been finished. Notably, the construction of an 8-kilometer-long subway required 88 million square feet of land, and 20 million square feet of earth had already been processed for road construction.

Additionally, CM Mohsin Naqvi mentioned that the Maraka Interchange would eventually connect to SL-4, demonstrating his commitment to development. He also shared insights from his recent visit to Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur and his team's ongoing assessments of various cities. Measures to combat smog were discussed, including the spraying of water in affected areas, pending decisions following consultations with smog experts. The next cabinet meeting will consider further actions based on professional recommendations and the severity of the smog issue. The meeting included the presence of the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Punjab, Secretary of Communications and Works, and representatives from the Frontier Works Organisation.

Lahore: Recent developments, including the crackdown on iron scrap smuggling and the devaluation of the dollar, have led to a substantial decrease in steel bar prices, according to a news report published on October 13.

The noteworthy point is that steel bar prices have seen a remarkable decline of PKR 50,000 per tonne, bringing the cost down to PKR 240,000 from the previous PKR 290,000 per tonne. Traders are optimistic that this reduction in production costs could ultimately translate into lower prices for everyday consumers. Nevertheless, they also express concerns that the broader public is yet to witness substantial relief, particularly in light of escalating expenses related to electricity and gas bills.

It's important to highlight that the prices of construction materials have surged significantly nationwide this year, putting immense pressure on the construction industry. Costs of fundamental construction materials such as gravel, bricks, and cement have experienced notable increases.

LAHORE: An accountability court has issued a directive to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to resolve complaints concerning Paragon City. This development follows a decision by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to clear former federal minister Khwaja Saad Rafiq, his brother Khawaja Salman, and others in a reference related to the housing scheme.

A special NAB prosecutor submitted a report to the court, stating that no violations under the National Accountability Ordinance of 1999 had been identified among the suspects mentioned in the reference. The report emphasized that allegations of corruption were not substantiated against the Khwaja brothers. As a result, it was deemed unnecessary to proceed with the reference.

The report further noted that Paragon City had received approval from Aziz Bhatti Town. Additionally, it indicated that only eight individuals had filed complaints against the housing scheme, as the majority of affected parties had already received their allotted plots.

Consequently, the court, based on NAB's report, referred the matter to the LDA, instructing them to address the complaints lodged against Paragon City.

Recently, NAB reopened the reference after amendments to the ordinance, introduced by the previous coalition government, were invalidated by the Supreme Court. On March 29, 2023, the trial court returned the Paragon reference to the NAB chairman for presentation in a competent court following the new legal amendments.

The NAB initially filed the reference against the Khwaja brothers during the tenure of Imran Khan's government, accusing them of illegally gaining approximately PKR 18.2 million from M/s Paragon City (pvt) Limited. The bureau alleged that the accused individuals, along with their accomplices, defrauded the general public and unlawfully profited from the funds of the illicit society.

The Khwaja brothers were arrested by the NAB on December 11, 2018, after the Lahore High Court declined to further extend their pre-arrest bail. They remained in NAB's custody for a period of three months.

CDA Recovers 700 Kanals of Land in Sector I-12

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has successfully reclaimed 700 kanals of valuable land in Sector I-12 of the federal capital over the past two days. This significant achievement comes as a result of a comprehensive operation initiated by the CDA following the directives of CDA Chairman Capt® Anwar ul Haq.

The Enforcement Directorate of CDA, in collaboration with various departments, launched the operation near NUST University in Sector I-12, targeting an illegal Afghan settlement that had encroached over an extensive area. The operation was executed with the use of heavy machinery, leading to the demolition of numerous structures, including rooms and livestock enclosures.

This successful operation resulted in the recovery of 700 kanals of land, which will now be allocated for fast-track development projects.

In a parallel effort to address encroachments, the authorities took strict action against violations along Simly Dam Road, Karnal Sher Khan Avenue, Maandi Mor Margalla Town Phase-2, and Murree Road. This action included the removal of additional sheds and fruit stalls located on both sides of the road to ensure clear public passages. During the operation, six trucks loaded with confiscated goods were impounded by the authority.
