Responsibility of Our Media ?

102 died in suicide attack, still the hot topic in media is "Punjab Assembly Bill Against Media". No one to mourn the lives of innocent citizens.

nasir1 replied on Saturday, July 10, 2010 06:44 PM PST

During school/college life, top students in my class (similarly yours too) were serious about studies & later in life, they became engineers, doctors, architects, joined army, or got jobs in banks & industry & self employed etc etc.

Apart from that there was a breed which was dull & stupid went for LLB & similar subjects. This dull breed became laywers.

Second breed infact so dull that they went for philosophy, literature & similar subjects and somehow passed after failing & failing again. This breed joined media.

Third breed which was total badmaash & political types are now the politicians of our country.

Together, these three breeds are ruling us & they are delivering what they are capable of!

These incompetent breeds have influence over bureaucracy, army & almost every institution and hence bringing forward their like minded people.

We are suffering because of this!

Amir replied on Saturday, July 10, 2010 08:37 PM PST

Brothers, in Islam we do not have any position of priest, Molvi or Mulana does not exsit in Islam. Becuase we do not know our religon therefore we have created this class in Islam. This is to save us from taking the trouble to learn our deen, so we are paying the price.

limo replied on Sunday, July 11, 2010 12:18 AM PST

Absolutely right Masood Khan sb, today if this class (molvi, mullah, molana etc i have high regards for all of these)has hijacked Islam is because of the fact that we have left the practice of studying, learning and practicing Deen altogether. While criticising them we forget that in a way we are acknowledging our ignorancce.

nasir1 replied on Sunday, July 11, 2010 03:44 AM PST

@ Justice

Army has got Unity, Army has got Faith, Army has got Discipline. Its the only institution which is somehow following these Golden rules.

Why Army comes to rule us, it comes to save us, when these retarded breeds gets out of control and start fighting each other.

An example is being set at the moment, PML-N government has passed a resolution against media and amusingly has put blame on PML-Q.

While our government is busy fighting & defaming judiciary., the lawyers are being bribed. People of Pakistan are being pushed to limits! Its perfect recipe for army to rule, however, this time american diplomacy is in full control of central government & is having huge influence for decision making.

The quote "Democracy is the best revenge" is working like a lash on the people of Pakistan and this quote has influence on Chief Justice & chief of army staff who says democracy should go. So little hope for people!

I guess we have to live with the PPP's quote
"Roti Kapra aur Makaan "
"bhuki nangi karo awam"

Not blaming particularly Media, all of us are part of corrupt society. God is putting same leaders like us on us. Media is sold to different Plotical groups. None of them are fair. Where to find the way.

Shocked to read the comments of Nasir1.Armed forces duty is to defend the country not to rule the country. During army rule, we lost our half country, lost Siachin,Cargil. They introduced heroine, klashinkof culture and now gift of suicide bombers.Pakistan is the only country in this world where some idiots still like army rule.Allah talah in ko hidait de.

The situation is more worst, some of our media groups are being funded from outside. Once they recieve heavy funds, they have to follow their policies.

Fox TV belongs to jew lobby, just compare the presentation style of Fox and Geo and I've seen Hamid Meer working as Islamabad Beurue Chief for Fox News 8-9 years back.

Dear AD:

Let us be realistic and evaluate ourselves as a nation or members of a religion (any). What values or rules we follow. None. No moral value on the society level. No rule at Governemnt level. Try hospital, Ploice Station and Judiciary. You go innocent for help, you get worst traetment of more than a crimianl. Tel me. You get a job of police Inspector. Will you change the system or will go with the same lawlessnes. So result is ALL is not well, my friend. I am part of it.

One day I went to Pace shopping center in Lahore to replace the screen of my son's PSP game. The vendor smiled and promosed best brand new screen. When I returned home with PSP, the cover plastiic was pasted on scratched used screen to show new one. In my opinion we are feeding our new generation with Haram.

Those small percentage who are with good moral values are oblighed to do haram, why becuase slowly this posion is getting deep into us. a serios situation to think about.

MAS replied on Sunday, July 11, 2010 08:40 PM PST

Dear Sultan Tipu,

You have asked: "Can you name any scientist/inventor who was topper in school/college?"

Yes I can name many. Just to give you a few examples:

1. Dr. Abdus Salam. Wikipedia writes about him: "Salam scored the highest marks ever recorded for the Matriculation Examination at the Punjab University." Wikipedia also writes: "he completed a BA degree with Double First-Class Honours".

2. Dr.Atta ur Rahman. Wikipedia writes about him: "Atta ur Rahman has had a prominent record in Cambridge Overseas School Certificate in 1958, and in 'A' Levels".

3. Ahmad Hasan Dani (Foremost authority in South Asian Archiology). Wikipedia writes about him: "He graduated in 1944, with an MA degree, to become the first Muslim graduate of Banaras Hindu University. He scored highest marks in the exams which earned him a Gold Medal".

In fact every single person who has a Ph.D from a reputed university has had good academic record otherwise they won't have been accepted in the doctoral program.

Academic achievement is just one important measure of ability. Even all other measures of ability combined don't guarantee success in life. You need a good amount of luck as well.

The system of accountability and credibility is required at all levels in Pakistan whether it is bureaucracy, army , politician, judiciary and press.Any wrong doings can be challaged and if required investigated. We still have people who are credible and capable enough to be part of the system.

Further democracy is not a God given system. Pakistan has the worst kind of democracy, still some idiots like it, Allah in ko Hidait dey.

Amjad, Amsterdam replied on Monday, July 12, 2010 06:45 AM PST

@ nasir1 For this kind of democracy only army is responsible. For us India is the big example where army is under the civilian government. Lets give some time to the political parties, after three or four elections every thing will be ok. For me this kind of democracy is much better than army dictatorship. This is the army who broke our country and responsible for all the problems which our country is facing now. I know we have lot of idiots in the country who support directly or indirectly military dictatorship. Allah in sub ko hidait de.

The same happened to me. I called them and the reply what you received I was given the same reply. Although they intimated me the new procedure, but it cannot be implemented until I personally visit any of their ATM machines in Pakistan. The only remedy at the moment is, if you have phone banking facility, then you can have your balance checked on phone. Since I have phone banking facility, so worry little reduced.

I have the better experience of UBL even you can open new account, Pak rupees or Dollars and can buy National saving Bonds staying abroad, I am in UAE don't know about UK or US, HBL Limited have only one Branch here and usually not cooperative in this sort of activities

PROGRESS replied on Saturday, July 10, 2010 08:22 PM PST

I was having two million in my account when I visited Pakistan last year. When I wanted to withdraw by cheque Bank asked me to provide the signature of my partner (not my wife) as secondary authority which I never had in my life. One ATM was also issued to him. It was sole account only under my name. I asked the manager and a scene was created. Then they ran here and there checking all records. In end they said sorry.

What would happens if I lost my money. Still I can can not believe what bank was trying to do with my account. GOD KNOWS.

Anyhow I withdraw all my money from HBL.

limo replied on Saturday, July 10, 2010 10:42 PM PST

ago i calledWhen was it that you activated your internet banking with HBL ! A month ago i called the HBL, Mall branch and enquired about my balance They took a while and told me my balance.I asked the gentleman whether do they have internet banking, so that i should not bother you next time when i have to enquire about my balance. He said that at the moment they dont have this facility and i can always call him and enquire if needed.I just asked him that why is it that we take too much a time to catch up with the rest of the world. He tried to defend his position by saying that it is not that simple to tie up around 1500 branches into a network overnight.

Abbas replied on Sunday, July 11, 2010 12:24 PM PST

I faced same problems with Askri and MCB banks.
I have FC A/C with Askri and actived intenet banking. I forgot my Passwrod and asked for its recovery but they refused. I went Pakistan, filled the form for new internet login and failed to get it with in one month(vacation period).
Now i shifted to SAMBA Pakistan. Just go to Pak.samba.com and register by entering your ATM No. You can recover your PW and add/delete beneficiary easily.

ASK replied on Monday, July 12, 2010 05:49 PM PST

I am currently banking with Standard Chartered Bank. I have experienced really bad service before from MCB and average service from Bank Alfalah. I find Standard Chartered has excellent service and are always very quick and willing to help.

There Internet banking is extremely good. You can not only transfer money to other accounts in there bank but to accounts in other banks as well using online banking. I always get excellent service and support whenever I have called them.

Rates for property valuation revised up in Sindh

KARACHI: The Sindh Board of Revenue has increased valuation rates by 200 per cent per sq yard for properties (houses, plots) in posh areas, 150 per cent for units in upper middle class areas, 100 per cent for units in lower middle class and 50 per cent for units in localities inhibited by the poor segment.

The rates were announced in a new valuation table for properties issued under the Stamp Act, 1899 which has come into effect from July 2, 2010.

For valuation purpose properties have been divided into six categories from A-1 for posh areas like Clifton and Defence to category V1, which covers areas like Surjani Town, Qasba, Metrovile etc. The valuation rates for properties in Clifton and Defence area have been raised by 200 per cent per sq yard, 150 per cent for units in Artillery, Burns Road and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, 100 per cent for units in Gulistan Jauhar, F B Area and North Nazimabad and 50 per cent per sq yard for properties in suburb areas.

In the interior areas of the province the valuation rates for units situated in major towns like Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, and Larkana have been raised by 100 per cent, while for smaller towns there is an increase of 50 per cent.

According to the valuation table rate of residential plots lying in A-1 category is Rs14,850 per sq yard, commercial plot Rs34,500 per sq yard, and industrial plots RsRs2,200.

For built-up residential plots the rate is Rs23,100 per sq yard, built up commercial plot Rs41,400 and industrial units Rs386 per sq yard. For a built up flat the rate is Rs2,475 per sq foot for category A-1, while Rs125 for flats lying in the poor category.

Acting Chief Inspector of Stamps Ijaz Qureshi told Dawn on Wednesday that the valuation rates had been revised after four years, but they were still far below the prevailing market rates.

Citing examples, he said, the market value of a 1,000-yard bungalow in Clifton is Rs45-50 million whereas the value of the same house in the new table is Rs23 million.

Similarly, the market value of 400-yard bungalow in Gulshan-e-Iqbal is over Rs10 million but in the table its value has been fixed at Rs3 million. In Korangi the value of a plot of 60-yard is Rs0.7 million against only Rs60,000 fixed in the table.

The owners registering their property on sale or purchase will have to pay stamp duty and other taxes calculated on the minimum value of the unit mentioned in the table.

Ijaz pointed out that the registration of properties had come to a standstill due to high rates of taxes which eroded revenue from stamp duty and other taxes. However, in the new budget stamp duty rate had been cut from 3 per cent to 2 per cent and capital value tax (CVT) from 4 to 2 per cent.

Increase in valuation of properties would be compensated by cut in tax rates, he claimed.

The stamp duty collection declined drastically during last fiscal year due to high rates. The directorate collected only Rs3,072 million against the target of Rs6,000 million in 2009-10.

Meanwhile, United Defence Clifton Estate Agents Association Chairman Raja Mazhar criticised the 200 per cent raise in valuation rates for properties by the Sindh government and said it would badly damage the real estate business.

He said that the Sindh Board of Revenue had been sleeping on the valuation table and issued a new table after five years raising the rates abnormally. He said that the valuation rates should have been increased by 50 per cent this year followed by 10 per cent every year.
