The Lahore High Court has ordered LDA to build 9 major roads, and the DG claims that LDA is working nonstop to do so.

The route connecting Doctor Hospital and the Expo Center is being converted to a model road, according to the specifics.

The DG stressed the requirement for immediate preparation of a plan for parking and encroachment removal from G-1 Market in coordination with Tepa, PHA, and local vendors.

In order to avoid any traffic snarls outside, the DG also advised the Emporium Mall management to set up motorcycle and automobile parking inside the mall.

To ensure the efficient flow of traffic, a traffic management strategy should also be developed during school and peak hours.

Islamabad Govt to Revise the ICT Master Plan to Create New Sanitary Landfill Sites

Islamabad Govt to Revise the ICT Master Plan to Create New Sanitary Landfill Sites
Islamabad: The government has approved altering the ICT master plan to include new sanitary landfill sites. The number of landfill sites is subjected to a feasibility assessment by a consultant.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a directive to the Secretary to the Prime Minister in August 2022 to prepare a report providing insight into the inclusion of ecologically sustainable disposal and waste management systems in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

The PM’s Office submitted a detailed report to the IHC on October 04, 2022. The office also instructed to put forward the matter before the Federal Cabinet.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) shared relevant information on the subject in a letter to the federal Cabinet. According to the CDA, the escalating population of around 2.2 million inhabitants in the capital produces approximately 1,200 tons of solid waste daily. However, the waste management capacity of the CDA is 650 tons, whereas the rest of the waste is processed by the union councils and private contractors.

In compliance with the court’s order to establish waste management sites, the CDA has taken the following steps.

(i) Declaring a state of urgency for garbage transportation.

(ii) Hiring the Urban unit as a consultant to identify suitable landfill sites and develop a waste management plan.

(iii) Conducting comprehensive surveys on waste generation.

The CDA also presented a proposal for consideration by the federal Cabinet. The proposal highlights include:

(i) The development of one or more sanitary landfill sites by March 2023. The number of sites would depend upon the feasibility assessed by the consultant.

(ii) Adjustments in the master plan if needed.

(iii) Fulfillment of environmental Impact Assessment and other codal formalities during the construction.

CDA Plans to Build Affordable Hostels in Islamabad

CDA Plans to Build Affordable Hostels in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The CDA has planned to construct a girls’ and a boys’ hostel to facilitate youth visiting the capital from remote areas of Pakistan for a brief time. Hostels in Islamabad.

The decision was taken in a meeting presided by the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Noorul Amin Mengal. The chiefs of the engineering and planning wings of the CDA were also present in the meeting. The Chairman instructed the planning and engineering wings to visit and find suitable sites for the project.

An official of the civic body stated, “The basic purpose of the hostels, one each for males and females, is to facilitate the young people who are coming from the far-flung areas of the country for different purposes.”

According to a member engineering wing, Syed Munawar Shah, the construction plan for the hostels has been approved, and the construction work will be started shortly. He stated, “Once we get details of the approved sites, we will move towards PC-I of the project and tendering.”

As per a CDA official, the idea of the youth hostels transpired after meeting a young boy from a distant area of Punjab with the Chairman of CDA. The boy faced difficulties finding a suitable place to stay for his exams as the private hostels were too expensive. Therefore, the Chairman CDA took this initiative to provide subsidized accommodation to young people visiting Islamabad.
