Abdul replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 05:33 PM PST

DHA 9/10 is stunt price wise for many years now, even there is drop of 10,000 in today's price. One may be right that this phase will gain but when ?

I am sure there are more people who lost in this phase and none have gained yet, and who knows how much of development charges can be imposed.

Main negative point is NO DEVELOPMENT FRAME for many years to come if you are not agreed ask some one who invested in Phase-7 and own a plot in Y and Z block, who knows you will be in the same scenario in DHA 9/10

Khan replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 07:18 PM PST

DHA 9/10 with three interchanges of Lahore Ring Road and direct access from Ferozpur Road will be best
location in the long run. It is closest from DHA Phase 1 to 4 and a stone throw away from DHA Phase 4/5 where one kanal plots are as high as one crore. It is safest long term investment. Not for six months or a year. Buy it and hold for 10 years. Perhaps no other phase will give you better return on investment in the long run.

Don't worry about 10 thousand down today or 10 thousand up tomorrow. It is long term investment. Forget about short term volatility.

Salman replied on Thursday, July 29, 2010 01:31 PM PST

And also please note as Mr. CMY said in one of his posts earlier that ONE Kanal FILE is given against 4 Kanal Agricultural Land. Do you think you can buy 4 Kanal Agriculture land in that area in 15 Lacs. I dont think so.

Therefore, it is one the best investment options but very long term as well.

Dear Educational experts,

I have paid Rs.85000 to FAST todahy for admission of my son in BCS just to block the seat and waiting for NUST result. However, he is little bit confused to do BCS or BE Elect. Engr as he wants to do BS in EE but he heard that its EE degree is not recognized by the PEC.
Can you please tell me he shoul do BCS or can be better BS EE even now it is not recognized but may after 4 years when he completes could be recognized by the PEC. Still we may change but later may be difficult. Please say that BCS from FAST is good but nobody commented about its BS EE programme.
Please give your comments that if could no get in NUST or UET then should he keep BCS or better BSEE from FAST. Thanks for your comments.
Regards

Mian Nadeem replied on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 10:52 PM PST

BS EE will recognise in future.Apptitude of student must be given prioririty.
My opinion is
1-BE SE
2-BE EE
3-BCS (BE Computer Sciences is better option)
other th an FAST
1-BE EE
2-BE TE
3-BE Civil Engg:
4-BE Chemical
5-BE Mechanical

Analyst_1 replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 02:51 AM PST

This is your third post on the same topic. Sorry to say but you sound more confused than your son. In technical education, degree always play a second role..only those people are recognized in the professional world who has the knowledge. Asim is right .let him do what your son really wants to do in his life. All professions are in demand as long as you know what you are doing.

Naveed Yaseen replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 05:14 AM PST

Following are some traits of software engineering as profession

• introverted personalities are usually more successful in this profession

• must have strong mathematics aptitude for excellence (i.e. staying on top) in career

• must keep learning fast changing technology for successful career

• for reason above, actually there is risk of getting career burnout if one cannot or does not keep up for some years, say 4-5 years

• for same reason, institution of degree (or even degree itself) doesn't matter much after some experience. one's previous work and current skills become his/her accreditation

• very diverse field. actually the term 'software engineering' alone is insufficient to encompass it's diversity. there are several tens of specialties. practitioners of one specialty usually cannot perform in others without some specific learning and experience. and thats one reason of career burnout. when one cannot or does not keep up-to-date with his specialty, he is not likely to get mid-career jobs in other specialties either

• every day is a new day in terms of work, no repetition

• sometimes the work gets incredibly complex (like math puzzles or... chess)

• combination of being new and being complex with time constraint is stressful on many (but some enjoy it like games)

If all above sound difficult, these apparent negatives are like natural merit, thus become positives for ones who have talents and instincts required to accomplish these. This enables them to utilize their talents better for themselves and society.

• pays/incomes are good

• demand is likely to stay strong for some decades, at least until IT hardware technology keeps improving (which pressurizes quick competitive upgrades in software) and until developing world's economies keep growing (which provides new opportunities of software utilization)

• no geographic licensing barriers (unlike most other technical careers)

• strictly speaking, even geographic proximity to workplace is usually not needed, if one can convince or impose it to corporate bureaucracies

Abdul replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 05:33 AM PST

Please don't discourage when some one is asking for help, your recommendation and suggestions.

There is a saying it is better to ask a silly question instead of making a stupid mistake,

and there is no harm to ask same question till satisfaction, remember only those KIDS flourish whose elders worry for their education. In our society we can not leave every thing on kids otherwise they would prefer to be a DJ and not engineer or a doctor.

MAS replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 02:15 PM PST

Excellent description of Software Engineering by Naveed Yaseen. This is how occupations should be analyzed and compared to make sure the nature of work (that you will be doing for forty years) will suit your personal nature. Career planning should not be based just on where there is more money or more jobs.

You may check the following website for details on all occupations:

Dear all brothers,

Thanks a lot for your comments. Today NUST announced the result of BS and my son selected for Mechanical Engineer in Islamabad ( which was his wish ). I have alredy deposited the money into Bank.
So I will take refund now from FAST of BSCS next week. However, he still insist to appear for UET. So if he also slected in UET, what do you prefer to join NUST or UET for Mech.Engr.
Thanks and regards

Shahid replied on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 07:12 PM PST

Dear Zahid,

For sure! NUST is 2nd to none. GO AHEAD and don't look back, your son will have good future. Allah app sub per mehrban ho. Aameen!

Abdul replied on Thursday, July 29, 2010 12:24 AM PST

NUST is not the best but your son will learn discipline and get qualified with out any loss of time, where as in UET it may take longer period then mentioned.

limo replied on Thursday, July 29, 2010 01:33 AM PST

@Zahid,
Congrats, atlast your son managed to choose the correct profession.Brother if you are an overseas then do take a chance for UET on reserved seats.Lately i have seen an ad in which UET has also invited applications on the reserved seats for overseas. It is the first time they are offering admissions for overseas on reserved seats.UET (both lahore and taxila ccampuses)and NED are the only two institutions whose engineering degrees are recognised world wide. There were times when it used to take around 6 years after FSc to complete your degree but nowadays they are completing courses well within time. What i am trying to say is that atleast your son has secured his future with a good profession in hand but getting this degree from a recognised institution would further ensure a brilliant future for your son.Best of luck.

JOHAR (Saudi Arabia) replied on Thursday, July 29, 2010 04:13 AM PST

Strongly agree with Limo.Try for UET Lhr and now it is not like before as limo explained.

Congrats and best of luck.
