Assalam-O-Alaikum!

Another year and another Independence Day! But I wonder, what exactly we really mean by the word Independence. I am sure most of my fellow brothers will be up in arms, if I dare ask them to refrain from this silly practice of celebrating the so-called Independence Day.

No one would deny the fact that the appearance of Pakistan on the world map was nothing short of a miracle, with a bit of everything blessed by Allah Almighty for this Promised Land. But countries are known more by its people and NOT the land they have.

Now just look at it 60 ought years down the road; the equation is plain and simple, as we have made a disastrous mess of our beloved motherland. Making long story short, what is the point of celebrating for a country, which in fact is reduced to tatters by our own misdeeds. I would request all my fellow countrymen to do a bit of soul searching and ponder some serious thoughts upon some of the following points:

• We pride ourselves to be called independent, while in reality we are being dictated by some third rated bureaucrats of the US Foreign Office, who are equivalent of any 22 grade officer of our country and you can see our political hierarchy peeing in their pants just in front of them.
• We have a bunch of extremely self centered crooked leaders, who are hell bent to erode Pakistan’s territorial, political and socio-economical integrity.
• We have a million strong army, which has more generals than the entire US army and been acting more like mercenaries & best at killing its own people.
• We have an economy, which is in ruins and literally on the brink of bankruptcy.
• We have a population, which is bursting from the seems and our country, which is big enough to handle not more than 60-70 millions, has to endure the ever increasing burden of 170 millions and there seems to be no respite in this geometrical growth. On top of that more than one third of this population is living below the official poverty line of couple of dollars a day.
• We have a crumbling infrastructure, which is getting from bad to worst.
• We have a literacy rate, which is one of the lowest in the world and we are in no mood to make it any better.
• We have a media, which has no respect whatsoever to respect religious, moral or ethical values and seems more keen to promote the infamous Kanjar Culture in our country

I mean the endless list goes on and on. So my fellow countrymen, if we have addressed and resolved all these critical issues, so let’s remove mufflers from our respective vehicles and roam the streets to join the party; AND if not, then instead of wasting our already depleted resources in these silly celebrations, we are desperately required to sit back on the drawing board and devise a strategy to help make our country really Independent, geographically, politically as well as economically and try to make it a better & safer place for us and the generations to come.

May Allah Alamighty always bless Pakistan and give us enough wisdom & courage to protect it from all its enemies, Amin.
