China stands by Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Agencies) - Chinese vice premier Meng Jianzhu held a string of meetings with Pakistan’s military and civilian leadership and affirmed his country’s unflinching support to Pakistan at all times, and the two countries signed a number of economic and technical cooperation agreements.
Though, the Chinese vice premier’s visit was pre-scheduled and part of Pak-China decision to celebrate 2011 as Pak-China Friendship Year, the recent strain in Pak-US ties has made it more significant. It is now being viewed as an important display of Chinese support for Pakistan.
Meng Jianzhu separately met Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Khalid Shameem Wynne on Monday and discussed with them the emerging security situation in the region and the fight against terrorism.
In his meeting with Gen Kayani both leaders discussed the US allegations levelled against Pakistan and the security threats issued to the country. The Chinese premiere lauded Pakistan at its exemplary sacrifices in the war against terror and assured his country’s continued help to her eternal friend.
He discussed with Gen Wynne the emerging geostrategic situation and other matters of mutual interest. CJCSC highlighted the converging interest of Pakistan and China, both in security and economic arenas.
Earlier, the Chinese dignitary who arrived on a two-day state visit was accorded a warm welcome by Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Pakistan’s ambassador to China Masood Khan and other officials at Chaklala Airbase. In his brief talk at the airport, the Chinese vice premier said that China has always stood by Pakistan and it will help her friend in every hour of need. He said that the two countries have been working together for the peace and stability of region and this exemplary cooperation will continue forever.
Meng Jianzhu said that he was proud of the unprecedented Pak-China friendship that has passed all tests and trials, and it will continue to get stronger in the future. He said the people of Chain and Pakistan are eternal friends and the cooperation of the two countries at state level was a reflection of this time-tested friendship and trust. To a question, he said it was not time to discuss US threats but to take the Sino-Pak bilateral cooperation to new heights.
Rehman Malik thanked the Chinese vice premiere over unconditional support of China to Pakistan through all her difficult times and hoped the relationship will get even more stronger by the Chinese dignitary’s visit. He also thanked for China’s timely help to meet the challenges presented by the floods this year and the last year.
Pakistan, who enjoys warm friendship with China, is being pressured by Washington to launch offensive against suspected militant elements in North Waziristan tribal agency. Recently, the US officials publicly accused Pakistan and its intelligence agency of supporting Taliban’s Haqqani network. Pakistan has denied the accusations and called them as unfortunate.
A foreign ministry official said the visit has a symbolic as well as substantial value and it will definitely send a message across the Atlantic. He described the tour as a big relief for Pakistan. However, a ministry spokesperson downplayed the notion and said that the visit was pre-scheduled in the context of the 60th anniversary of Sino-Pak friendship.
Latter at night, Pakistan and China signed a number of agreements related to economic and technical cooperation, relief goods, emergency humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation of some damaged parts of national highways networks at a special ceremony in Aiwan-e-Sadr. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chinese Vice Premier Meng Jianzhu, President Asif Ali Zardari, federal ministers, Punjab governor, Gilgat-Baltistan chief minister and members of the visiting Chinese delegation.
The agreements involving $250 million of Chinese assistance were signed soon after the meeting between the Chinese vice premier and President Ali Zardari.
Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that in two rounds of talks at the Presidency matters concerning Pak-China relations, mutual cooperation, regional situation, fight against militancy and recent devastation caused by heavy rains in Sindh came under discussion.
Those present during the delegation-level meeting included Ambassador Liu Jian, Deputy Secretary General of the State Council Wang Yongqing, Vice Minister Zhou Qing, Assistant Minister Chneg Guoping and Li Wei, DG MFA and former ambassador Mr Luo Zhaohui and other senior officials.
From Pakistani side Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Syed Naveed Qamar, Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Secretary General Salman Faruqui, BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja, Gilgit-Baltistan CM Syed Mehdi Shah, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan Ambassador in China Masood Khan and other senior officials.
He said that the Chinese leader reaffirmed China’s continued support to Pakistan in its fight against militancy and promotion of regional peace and stability. The president thanked China for its support to Pakistan on the issues of all major concern to the country and its people.
The President said that Pakistan at present was passing through a critical phase as it was battling to purge the curses of militant mindset, to reconstruct the damaged infrastructure and rehabilitate the devastated people who lost everything due to successive natural calamities.
He said that in these peculiar circumstances when the country was grappling with many challenges simultaneously, Chinese assistance has been most welcome in stabilising the situation.
The president thanked the Chinese government for sending a consignment of 7,000 tents. He said that the displaced people required hundreds of thousands of tents and Pakistan looked forward to China’s assistance in the areas of shelter and health.
Regional situation was also discussed during the meeting. The President said that Pakistan greatly appreciated China’s support to Pakistan on all issues of its major concern. He said that Chinese role - being a source of stability for the region - was very important to write a new era of peace and stability in the region.
Meng Jianzhu thanked the president for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation and assured continued Chinese support to Pakistan on all issues.
Later, the President also hosted a dinner for the Chinese dignitary and his delegation that was also attended by some federal ministers and senior officials.

LHC orders CM probe Rs 800m fraud by patwaris

LAHORE - Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Monday asked the Punjab chief minister to form a high-level enquiry to probe the financial embezzlement of Rs 800 million in Revenue Department done by patwaris and tehlsidars of Mandi Bahauddin while collecting property mutation fee. The CJ sought a report of the CM’s enquiry team by October 10.
The LHC CJ also ordered for registration of FIR against patwaris, tehsildars and Mandi Bahauddin assistant commissioner working in a nexus in committing forgery in mutation fee receipts of the amount received from sale and purchase of lands which they did not deposit in the state kitty and pocketed portion of the revenue by making bogus receipts of deposits in the national bank.
The CJ passed the order on a petition filed by Ahmad Ali Waris, implicating Mandi Bahauddin DCO, additional collector, assistant commissioner, Naib Tehsildar Sohowar Jamalian Arif Anjum and Patwari Sohowar Jamalian Anayat.
The petitioner's counsel said the petitioner moved an application to Mandi Bahaduddin DCO on July 9 against the naib tehsildar and patwari for misappropriating property mutation fee during 2004 and 2007. He alleged that the respondents, instead of depositing the mutation fee in the government treasury, used the amount to improve their personal properties.
The counsel submitted that the application moved by his client was referred to assistant commissioner for enquiry, who threatened the petitioner when approached. He pleaded that the respondents had failed to inquire the matter, therefore, an inquiry be ordered and legal action be initiated against delinquent officials.
The CJ directed Additional Advocate General Hanif Khatana to approach the Punjab CM for formation of an enquiry committee.
LHCBA to debate
cutting NATO
supplies: An emergency meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has been called for today (Tuesday) to discuss stopping NATO supplies in response to the US threat of taking action against Pakistan.
Lawyer Liaquat Ali Qureshi tabled the requisition saying that after the US threatened Pakistan, 170 million Pakistanis were living under the blanket of fear and the sovereignty of the country was in danger. He said that it was time to adopt a bold foreign policy and rethink the alliance that gave no credit or benefit to Pakistan.
The requisition said that despite some differences with the federal government on certain issues, the members of the bar supported the government and demanded that the government should give a stern reply to the US.
It was demanded that since the country was helping the US in the passage of NATO supplies to Afghanistan, the US government should be warned that the NATO supplies would be cut if the threatening did not stop.
It was put forth that instead of depending on the US, the government should solidify relations with China. It was also said that the US had always been hostile despite the country’s alliance with the US for many years and that the false accusation leveled against the country of backing terrorists up should not be forgiven.

Will Mian Nadeem or somebody comment upon future prospects of Park Encalve Islamabad. Will it be a good place after couple of years and any merits or demerits. Thanks,

Irfan replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 01:22 AM PST

Park Enclave prospects are bright if the allottee hold it for 2 years or till the development is completed. Presently the development is going on its full swing.

Info replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 12:26 PM PST

Dear Irfan: Friend why you are spreading false information? Where is the development work in Park Enclave (Full swing) ?

The Park Enclave is a very good project but it will be good only if the CDA is serious in its efforts. Up till now if you compare the development of Park Enclave with Bahria Enclave, simply there is no comparison. The development work at Bahria Enclave is very fast and a lot of work has been completed in just two months. Please just visit both the sites and see the difference.

Mian Nadeem Islamabad replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 01:21 PM PST

Future of CDA "Park Enclave" is very bright.
Location is very good.
CDA has done pre development earth work in scheme.
CDA has ivited firms for "Development of Park Enclave Project on Design and Build Basis" for development of scheme (for detail visit CDA web site).
No demerits if CDA hand over possession of plots within 2-3 years.

answer replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 01:45 PM PST

@ Mian Nadeem Islamabad :

Respectfully submitted, I have personally visited the site, there is no pre development earth work while looking at the size of the project.

Mian Nadeem replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 04:44 PM PST

U r right no dev work on site at present. CDA MPO has done their work . Real dev work will start through contractor.

stn replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 05:27 PM PST

Does Bahria Enclave has NOC.

Park Enclave replied on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 09:32 PM PST

Mian Nadeem, Irfan and others thank you for providing
update and your time. I personally do not expect development work in a government scheme outright. They have to follow a procedure while private developer can get things rolling quickly in order to attract buyers. With discussion about NOC, and proximity claims to Islamabad club, it looks more reliable at present to go for Park Enclave. Its totally a matter of personal choice. Lastly mix of different size plots may not show as attractive after development.

Aslam Siddiqui replied on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 11:13 AM PST
