I was going through an article & thought how closely it resembles to our own case study:
How to Slaughter an Economy & the National Sovereignty
• Initially, increase import duties & ban the importing of any raw material.
• Close the borders and make it expensive to allow any exports.
• Make it difficult for the businessmen to do business & attract foreign investment.
• Force the business community & industry to rely on expensive underground smuggling to procure what the community needs. This in turn enriches the smugglers. Support them with indigenous people on political grounds & allow them asylums & support.
• Put incompetent / non-professional people in the ministries.
• Promote corrupt people & politicize institutions to grab their control.
• Pollute the fair politics & drag corrupt people in politics to hold on to public policy-making institutions.
• Develop Cartels & create mafias to attract investment, like housing schemes & trap them in procedural cycles & fake commitments.
• Create factions in religion to defuse their strength.
• Engage the intelligentsia into endless dialogue & exploit difference of opinion to create confusion.
• Breed the younger generation on leisure & lust.
• Trap different communities into social & cultural extravaganza.
• Keep frightening the nation with fears of potential enmities.
• And then, if the economy is still breathing, inflate the internal tensions to instigate civil war.
• Mutely, exploit the depressed class over the media; meet them in privacy as sympathizers. Stimulate their sensitive issues like faith, language, nationalism & monetary needs. They will then bomb their own fellows, cities & destroy their own factories.
• Burden the people with indirect taxes, inflate their basic necessities & de-develop the economy on false promises of development & security of the nation.
• Intentionally overlook the embezzlements of the custodians of aids & loans; quietly threaten them for the consequences but never prosecute proceedings against them.
• Finally decrease the import duties & offer more loans & aids so that they become addict to cover their needs.
Prevention & Cure
Once our great leader Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah directed the three basic value-guidelines – Unity, Faith & Discipline – It can work both ways as prevention as well as a cure if we follow these once again.
