The aid which every one is contributing should go through Army, becuase this is an organized organization and not currput to the extend of our so called government caretakers, in my opionion we have sufficient aid from Saudi Arabia, Japan, UN, England, USA, France etc, which can be more than enough for the rehabliation if spend on the batterment of the Pakistan, but there is a big doubt on this curropt government that things would reach to the deservers.

tzk replied on Saturday, August 21, 2010 02:40 AM PST

Pak KSA

The Aid is NOT Enough, Even UN, US, EU, UK, etc are saying it will take billions to recover. But i agree with you that we should donate through Army, Edhi, Alkhidmat, Imran Khan, Other Reliable Charities in Pak (i dont know all the names) or reputed charities in our respective countries. For Example ICNA, ISNA, Islamic Relief, HHRD etc in USA

visitor replied on Saturday, August 21, 2010 05:41 AM PST

All the govts. of world are helping 10 times more than our own govt.
If at one or two places present govt. had handed out aid it was merely for show.
If the UK incident would not have occured they would not have come out of their beds.
I only see politics being played.... when media show PM touring on helicopter CM call media and ride a bike....

Pakistan govt. has not handed out a single bread without photo session.

Privately individuals have handed out more aid than govt.

Islamabad Defence Housing Authority In Financial Crisis

DHA crisis

The last housing society that was expected to plunge into financial crisis, dragging commercial banks with it, was the quasi-public Islamabad Defence Housing Authority.
The latter has been operating in Islamabad Capital Territory and areas of Rawalpindi district since 2005. But poor business and management practices, including outsourcing the acquisition of land to private third parties has trapped the DHA in a debt of Rs12bn owed to local and foreign banks. One of these banks, the Askari Commercial Bank, like the DHA, is an arm of the military’s Army Welfare Trust. Unable to pay up, the Islamabad DHA is seeking not only a two-year moratorium on payment of mark-up and the principal loan amount, but also a waiver of the interest rate. Both requests, say banking experts, go against the rules of the State Bank of Pakistan. The concerned banks should ensure that whatever measures they decide on to resolve the crisis should be in accordance with the SBP’s prudential regulations. The DHA has already been criticised for its commercial advantage in the market, because other housing societies — including government societies — are registered under the Cooperative Societies Act, whereas the DHA has been granted preferential powers. What will not be tolerated is the exemption of Islamabad DHA from financial liability and judicial accountability.

The military has come to be regarded as more efficient in administration and management than civilian bodies. But the present crisis may dent that image, particularly when concern about transparency in the DHA’s dealings with private third-party entities had been expressed earlier by Transparency International Pakistan. The latter had insisted that the DHA implement the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority rules. An inquiry into the authority’s financial affairs undertaken by the defence ministry or GHQ could clarify matters and help repair the image damage suffered by the military in general and the DHA in particular.

Dear Amir,

I can only suggest you to purchase shares of PPFL mutual fund of Arif Habib Investment to get very high profit, capital gains and dividends. Property is not more giving good returns. I read in the article that people have gained and lost heavily in realestate and stocks. The shares of individual companies may be risky and can gain or loose, but there is very low risk in the mutual funds. The annual return in the mutual funds is between 25-30% as per report of MCB AMC website.
The example is that one of my friend purchased 100,000 share of PPFL 8 months agao with price of Rs. per share 2x100,000 = Total investment 2 lacs, today rate of PPFL is Rs. 9, so he gained Rs. 7 lacs with his 2 lacs investment within 8 months and he will also get next month dividend @ 1.86 per share. So I do not think any better investment than this. I mentioned above because I am also searching a venue to invest other than realestate and found that only mutual funds can give good returns, better than NSS and Bank deposits.
May be other experts can guide you more where to invest but I could not find anything else than mutual funds. It will be helpful for others if those people, who are dealing with mutual funds, to mention here that either they are gaining or loosing, so others could get benefits. They may tell some other good funds as well. We all should help and advice those who need.

Sui Gas Phase 2

I have a plot in Sui Gas Phase 2..ALready paid 5 lac in developmental charges. Now the society has asked another 3.5 lac as additional charges, due to high costs.

My question is that should i keep the plot, as i had purchased it for 20 lacs (including developmetnal charges) and current value is 8.5 lacs. I dont want to pay additional charges to the society..SO should i pay or go and sell the plot?

CMY and others, pls advise

PROGRESS replied on Thursday, August 19, 2010 05:48 PM PST

Instead of sustaining more loss my advise is to sell it so that you can save at least 3.5 lac other wise after paying this the market value will be the same.

Brave Hart Quakes and Floods

a. Bahria Town Flood . This flood came in 2004 and
lasted longerly and have effected generations. Nearly 5 crores
individuals were victamized. Most of them still are homeless,
jobless, in jails and on roads. This flood had a destruction of
100 times more than Hiro Shima and Naga Saki. No foreign aid was
required for the victims.
b. General Zarar Azeem Quake. This quake named DHA Quake grounded 8
millions individuals including over seas. Its effects are still
alive. Smale scale quakes in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi,
Gwadar,
Sialkot, Gujranwala and Faislabad keep coming with and without
warning. No foreign aid was required for the victims.
c. Stock Quake 2005. This quake commonly known as Shaukat Quake had
tremendous shock effects that most of the people have left this
contry for ever. Rangers aid was provided at Karachi.
d. Earth - Quake Oct 2005. This quake was pashionate and
considerate. It effected only those people who remained save from
the above quakes.
e Present Floods. These floods do have the negative effects. It has
again helped to recessioned companies to off load their stocks.
Quack and expiry medicines, obsolete tents, pseudo mineral waters
and pack juices and packed food items. I am afraid the villagers
will take more diseases after using this sort of aid items,
because they get natural, pure and desi items.
f. Future Clamities. Please educate our masses that this is not the
last disaster. Be ready to face many more in the form of IMF Tax,
income tax, saving tax, sales and purchase tax, living in
pakistan tax, FRT (Flood relief tax, low cost housing, police
tax, army tax,
taliban tax,
g. Request to Aid Supporters. Please dont be selective in motivating
other to give aid, help and support. Damage is a damage the
reasons could be different. Please you should have the courage
for the findings of right and wrong.

Very well written.
There are some more quakes that measured very high on rector scale and floods of dirty water that had many choking and digging -- clould added to this list.

1. ParkView - This flood has bent people so much they are kissing their own ...
2.
Gwadar Gold Rush of mid 2000s
3. Murder of Benazir and benificials - measuring greater than 9.0 -- rocked the whole country, many cities were silent for many days and later cries everywhere
4. SWAT IDP story.

Dear CMY,

Can you please put some light on these plots. Heard 21 lac and Installments.
What does it means? One has to pay 21 lac in total or you have to pay 21 lac in installments? Plots are alloted numbers? or yet to decide? How long it will take to get developed? is it a good investment? One has to pay development charges other then this amount?

Time to Make or Break - Whom you Suggest

What about proposing the name of a person for the chairman of the proposed commission for flood relief?
. The person should have credibility in & out of the country.
. Should have no corruption charges.
. Able to unite the nation at this catastrophe.
. Can manage a team of credible people.
. Can coordinate between all the groups.
. May become a stimulus of change.

Either....Edhi Sb or Imran Bhai can do this job very well. I read in the news that Edhi sb has refused to be the part of this commission. And I am sure Imran Bhai will do the same. People of Pakistan will not support Anything to do with this corrupt government and both of these personalities know this fact

I can also be good choice. Give me a chance

tzk replied on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 09:21 PM PST

i agree on both names but as i read Edhi refused it and imran would not want to be part of it as because of his political career, 6 big (corrupt) parties pml-n,pml-q, ppp, mqm, anp, jui will not be comfortable with him in commission.

I would suggest these people along with hameed gul be made members of commission as obligation as they may have some opposition but none of them have corruption charges. The more diversity of non-corrupt people from different backgrounds, the more transparent it will be.

Imran Khan and Musharraf should join ranks to oust PPP and noon league.

If any commission of this kind is made, clearly it is a vote of no confidence for the govt. People sitting in the parliment will have no moral right to it in the house afterwards.

I am sure that the present corrupt government shall not form a commission for rehabilitation works for the flood victims.

Hence, I would say that people of Pakistan has already checked the current lot of corrupts which include Zardari, N-league, Q league. Though I have never voted to Imran Khan but I will must support him for this noble cause. Today I watched on TV that he has already held a press conference with collaboration of MKRF and assured the public that their donations will not be lost. Keeping in view Imran Khan's past record of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Niml University, etc, I hope that he will also serve the people in a better way. So my vote goes for Imran Khan.

May Allah forgive our sins and keep our flood affected brothers and sisters safe and sound. aameen

What is wrong with Zardari. He is well connected to the entire world except people of Pakistan. For that he has two prime ministers, one current and one ex. We all should rally behind him at this national emergency. At least 90 percent will reach flood affected people.... not a bad deal....better than nothing.

I think discussing Imran as a prospective candidate to head a commission which is yet to be formed by the govt is absolutely meaningless. He can never be among the likes of govt and N-league as everyone here should be well aware of.However Abdul Sattar Eidhi can be an appropriate choice as he is not only a non political figure but also a known credible personality among all circles of the society. He also has the proven record of relief efforts fot any kind of catastrophy.
But what counts at this point of time is "action" as it is a race against time kinda situation, every second counts. But unfortunately, the response of our govt has been painfully slow.
I appreciate the on ground efforts done by our Pak Army.
